Donating Blood to Local Wildlife in Parque Tayrona

We spent three nights in the beautiful Tayrona National Park. The beaches were amazing, and the waters beautifully clear, but the facilities could use an upgrade. We stayed in hammocks the first night, at Finca el Paraiso at Arrecifes beach. The hammocks were so tightly packed that you would bump the person next to you any time you moved. The campground was packed with tents, no square inch bare. Contrary to what we were led to believe, they do not provide mosquito nets - I woke up in the morining with my face covered in bites, I look like I have chicken pox! What really upset me though is that they closed the bathrooms in the evening until 7 am, leaving hundreds of people without toilets for far too long. While waiting for them to open in the morning I was stung by a wasp. After that we decided to rent a tent in a different, less crowded campground, which was much better.

We spent the first day at La Piscina beach, and tried some arepa with huevo, basically cornbread deep-fried with an egg inside (everything here is deep fried). The next day we hiked to Cabo San Juan, which was a much nicer beach and campground, despite what Lonely Planet says. If we had been staying there we´d have stayed longer. We found a wood stove bakery on the beach and had amazing fresh baked bread with chocolate and arequipa, by far the best thing we ate there!

We arrived in Cartagena last night and just had fun wandering the streets of the old city. It´s a beautiful city, we´ll probably stay here a while.

I´ll load some pictures when we get back!

Princess
Call me a princess but I think I would rather stay at home than sleep in a hammock on a crowded beach with no bathroom facilities being eaten by mosquitos! Can't wait to see the pics. Hang in there Vance.
