new year decorations
the stores are looking so festive for the coming new year celebrations Well here I am sitting in a market back street off the main market of Petaling only locals here. After a very long day yesterday- arrived at 6.30 in the morning and did not get my room till 2 so I wandered about changing money checking out the price of things in the market and oh had a fish spa. There was this young Australian boy travelling with his family and he was loving it and so he inspired me and what the heck it was only R10.00 for the pleasure! Did I say pleasure??? Well eventually it was - the first instance when you put your feet in the water and the fish come swimming over and start nibbling is not all that pleasant. I had them (my feet that is) dangling over the water and only dipping them in for a few seconds there was so much shit on my feet and after the long flight plenty of dry skin for most of the fish in the pool to come to my feet. My new found Australian friend moved seats to be closer to me so he could now get his fish share!!! Once you get used to it
sea food on the bbq (braai for the south africans"
delicious cooked in tin foil spicey mixed sea food only RM20 its great and I recommend you should try it when you are here.
After a shower clean up and sort out with my stuff I decided to go and find a local plug connection for this computer otherwise I would be stuffed with only two hours of battery time. I was having no luck in this department at the shops around here - did get my new sim for my phone so that was something at last I was connected to the outside world and did not feel so alone anymore. I am so used to travelling with Tel boy its sickening so hey girl get over it and get over to Bintang where all the mega shops are without a map!! (I had left that behind in the hotel room and was not going back!) so I caught the overground to central where I thought I was going but it turned out not to be the right place even though some kind young man said walk out the building down the steps turn left follow the path then turn right and you will be there. Well he was right in a sense only to be found out a little
i saw the sticker a bit of home
yes our delicious cape grapes are for sale on the streets here later after a coffee and more directions. I thought there was there but in fact there was the monorail I needed to catch for a further 5 stops. On the way is saw that if I had taken the correct line in the first place it was only 3 stops from Chinatown and no changes of systems. So there I was learning without my Tel Boy. Lucky for me I have a good sense of direction - probably inherited from my dad and now I will never forget how to get there. Unless of course I get an Eskom moment which can occur these days (for those not in the know Eskom is our power station and from time to time we are known to get blackouts!!!
I made it home after dark on my own on monorail and back in lively Chinatown where I put all my purchases away and went out for dinner. What shall it be? Oh what the heck how about duck mee?? Delicious roasted duck with thin noodles, a few sprigs of bok choy accompanied by some sweet chilli and a small bowl of soup with some wontons. All for the princely sum of 5
chinese new year celebrations
have started - the lion are awakenend outside a shop for a blessing for the new year lots more of this to come in the coming weeks ringit - which is about R10 again what a deal. I went and said hello the staff of Roland where tel boy and I hang out for drinks and then I had my badly in need of pedicure. That’s what I love about Asia doesn’t matter what time of day you can get what you want when you want it. It was cool and inside the shop, the lights low and beds comfortable. Had a good chat to the staff and then fell asleep while having the treatment - that was a first for me. I woke up to lovely toes and made my way back home to get into bed and get some real sleep. So now I have missed the early morning and having my brunch which was great. How I love this city.
well i have moved on since then the day yesterday passing so quickly i can hardly even remember what i did except walking around and watching the scene and going to my favorite shop Peter Hoe getting decorating ideas from his wonderful eclectic collection of Asian style. i did not have duck for dinner and i did not make it to Simons friends place as i left the notes behind and hope that tel boy who is far more organised will bring them and i will save that for the last night when he has gone.
this morning on my way to have breakfast i saw the street had been blocked off and there was a big lion float ahead of me and oh a whole bunch of lion dancers in their costumes. this is the start of the chinese new year celebrations and shops have the dancers come and bless the shop. as these were new costumes the "lions" were still asleep and had to be painted with red dots and markings only then could they be awakened and begin to dance and shake. it was lovely and i am so happy we will see lots more of this in the coming days.
i have not found starbucks where i can log on and have a decent cuppucino and air con all in one!!! off to see if tel boy has arrived and about to run out of juice in this here computer signing out for now
