Edit Blog Post

I decided it has been too long since the last blog and should update everyone on life here in China.

Last week, Pete went to the hospital on Monday since his shoulder has been bothering him lately. James Jones, CTLC National Coordinator, went with him to translate and assist. He then woke up Tuesday feeling sick, probably got it from the hospital visit. He had to go back to the hospital on Wednesday for the actual MRI since they weren't able to do it on Monday. He was in bed basically all last week except going to the hospital or going to class where he showed The Simpson's episodes since he didn't feel well. He taught 3 of his 5 days last week.BIG BUMMER for both of us.

For me it meant I did the cooking, cleaning, laundry and took care of Pete since he was bed ridden most of the week plus teach my 10 classes and tutored 5 days last week. VERY BUSY..

I now tutor one of the Senior 2(Junior) teacher's son on Monday evening after school. His son is 9 years old and his name is Ivan. More to come on them later. On Tuesday, I teach a 90 minute English lesson to 3 and 4 year olds. Wednesday, I got my H1N1 shot at the hospital, too late for Pete for he was already sick 2 days by then. Thursday after school I host an English Corner for students to practice their English and then go straight to A+ to teach a 90 minute lesson to 2 year olds. Saturday, I taught 2-90 minute lessons to 4th-6th graders. Sunday, I taught a 90 minute lesson to 1st/2nd graders then a demo class 30 minutes in the afternoon to enroll more students at the center. WOW I am getting tired just thinking of all that last week.

We were to have friends over for dinner on Friday evening but we canceled since Pete still didn't feel well. It would have been our first time to have Chinese friends over and we were going to cook them pancakes, eggs and bacon for dinner. HMMM....

As of yesterday, Monday, Pete started to feel better. I received a call from our school asking that I assist Sophie, Senior 3 Physics teacher, with the Final English Competition that she is in on Thursday. I was not happy until they told me I get paid 200 kuai/hour to help her=$29.28. I assisted her on round 1 and 2 but received no pay for my work. Now round 3 I get paid. SWEET.

After school I went to tutor Ivan for the 3rd week and this was my DOG experience that was on Facebook. Yes, I was served Dog for dinner at their home. I thought they said it was duck and wasn't sure since it looked different than normal duck. (Duck is very common to eat in China and pretty good) I had one bite and didn't enjoy the meat with all kinds of bones and fat in it. So I didn't take anymore. Then the teacher proceeded to tell me it was DOG!! I tried not to vomit in my mouth at the table. The teacher, his wife and son all then proceeded to tell me about all the animals Native Guangdong people eat. Basically anything that is alive. You can eat 1 day old mice at a 5 star hotel in the capital city, Guangzhou. I will pass on that thank you.

There is a saying "If a strange creature was found in Beijing they would study it, in Shanghai they would sell it and in Guangdong they would eat it." ENOUGH SAID.
