First blog entry!

After a hectic morning running around Sydney tying up any loose ends, we managed to catch our flight at 2pm, landing in Saigon at around 9.30pm. Of course we were both very organised... and failed to book any accomodation. After spending a good half an hour working out the ATM to get out some Vietnamese dong (I am now, btw, a multi multi millionaire :P) we decided to head over to tourist taxi/hotel point. We happened to wonder over at the same as another couple who are planning to backpack Vietnam for a couple of weeks. They already had their accomodation pre-booked, and seeing as they were heading to the backpacker district, we decided to share a taxi there. It so happens that they came from Mount Beauty, a town about 50minutes drive from my home town of Tallangatta. Nick also knew a fair few of my friends I grew up with :S Crazy! The taxi only cost 55,000 dong each, which was about $4AUD.

We managed to find a hotel at $25 a night for two with breakfast. It was a bit flashier than what we plan to spend, so walked around District one and found another hotel for $13 per night. We have spent the last hour trying to find a power adapter for our camera's and music player, but no luck yet.

The traffic is insane! its already humid and it is not even 9am, but I will definately get some pictures over the next few weeks to upload 😊

Planning on cruising around today, finding a day tour for tomorrow to go and see the Cu Chi tunnels, and hopefully coming across a nightmarket and a few pagodas. This was just a quick little update to let you all at home know that Ben and I managed to arrive safely. Not sure when I will update next, planning on touring the Mekong Delta over the next few weeks, and there may not be internet services around.
