At Ama's house

SBA and I arrived last night to Ama's house (technically father's house) here in Taichung. There are no big plans for me to tour around here since there's not much to see, but I am allowed to roam by myself. Free at last! I have a phone card and our address copied down, which is all I need if I do get lost.

This morning we all went out for exercise at the park.

The way father puts it, it's "I'm going to walk with Ama".

But in reality, which is a wee bit disappointing, he pushes Ama in her wheelchair to the park and then walks about 1200 meters with her back and forth at a straight stretch. She's not walking much these days and she can't do it unassisted anymore. She sometimes walks with a cane, other times with the 4-leg walker. And at a very slow pace. I don't think the uncles take her out at all.. They and their wives have fattened her up and now we're trying to figure out how to make her lose weight. The problem is that since she's 100+, no one wants to say no to her. Whatever she wants , she gets. Just like at the Cheeseboard. :-/

Then we left her to stretch and yack with the other old ladies. Life goes at a pretty slow pace when you hit 102, I guess. Everyone talks to her and shakes her hand, tells her she looks good and catches up on the gossip...

In the afternoon he'll take her out again for a bit after her nap, but then that's it.

The pace of things here is definitely slower than in Taipei...

There's a chance I'll go clothes shopping this afternoon. I didn't bring much to wear and when father saw what I had on this morning (the same plum colored fuzzy sweater and black knit tee) he told me I should go buy new clothes. HAhaha. That's a first, he'd never say that back in CV, but I guess here he doesn't want his friends and our relatives to think that I dress like a slob and only have two shirts. Gotta keep face.

Let the old lady eat!
She is 102, why deny her whatever she wants to eat? Dude, when I get to a certain age, yet undetermined, I'm going to forget the gym and eat like a pig.

We do let her eat whatever she wants! We just wants her to eat less of it...
