We finally slept in, YEAH!!!! We ate breakfast at our hostel and it was pretty good for the Chinese trying to make American breakfast. It was our last day in Chengdu since we fly out on the 21st for Li Jiang at 8:15am.
We took a taxi to the Wu Hou Temple. This temple was build in the honor of Zhuge Liang, the famous military and political strategist of the Shu State in the Three Kongdoms period (221 - 589). The name of temple comes from the fact, that Zhuge LIang was conferred with the title of Wuxiang Hou - the duke of Quxiang). The temple was first build in the sixth century. It was adjacent to the Zhaoli Tempele, the memorial temple of Liu Bei, emperor of the Shu Han state. In early Ming Dynasty both temples were integrated into one.
Wuhou Si is a nice quite place with a lot of trees and flowers. In the beautiful garden you find a teahouse and a show of bonsai-trees. Pete loved this area since he has a green thumb, which comes from his dad.
Zhuge Liangs great personality, his dedicated service to others, and his outstanding intelligence place
him above all emperors, generals, and ministers in history. A visit to the temple illuminates his status with the Chinese people.
Jin Li Street is right next to Wu Hou Temple and it was a very quite area where you can walk around with lots of food, shops and narrow streets(no cars allowed). After walking around though we didn't find anything that looked to appetizing for lunch, we pulled out the quidebook our hostel gave us and found Peter's Tex-Mex. Yes it is a chain that we ate at in Beijing. There are only 3 cities in China that have them Bejing, Shanghai and Chengdu. Our cab driver took awhile to find it even though we had the Chinese characters for the address and a map. Once we arrived it was in the Expat area of Chengdu cause there was a handful of other foreign food restaurants and other foreigners on the streets, westerners are hard to find in China and we feel a certain connections to them when we see any.
The food was great and they even served A&W Root Beer, I hadn't seen or had Root Beer since we left the US. Ahh, the little
things you miss living in another country. After lunch we found some more parks on the map that were in the area so we walked to them. Within one park we stumbled upon a new living community called Jade City in the Sales Center stage. Of course we were the only westerners going through the models but it was cool to see and of course that is right up Pete's alley.
After the parks we headed back to the hostel cause it was nearing rush hour and it had been a long day out and about. We watched the movie "The Wrestler" Pete's pick, in the DVD room in the Hostel. It was actually pretty good and I could relate since as a child we would go to Church on Sunday morning then come home and watch WWF, football and have a big Sunday dinner. Mom did cook it every Sunday back when we were kids, not so sure anymore. LOVE YOU MOM.
Another early evening since we fly to Li Jiang at 7am tomorrow, alarm set for 5:10 am.
