Skybeds rule
Mike and I didnt sleep at all the night before we left, we figured that our body clocks were going to be that out of whack that one nights sleep wasnt going to help that much. In the end it worked out pretty well because mum managed to get us upgraded, and we had sky beds all the way to sydney. The marathon to LA was pretty boring but we met a couple of people from adelaide who were traveling around the states, they were pretty cool which helped pass the time.

When we arrived in New York we caught a taxi to Chip's appartment where we would be staying for the next 5 days. As soon as we got there we ditched our bags and Chip took us to dinner at an italian restaurant. After dinner Chip took us to a pub down the road where his niece and nephew were partying. so we spent our first night in new york drinking underage - good times. It was great staying with him, he's a really good bloke.

Over the next few days we walked aound and saw bits and pices of NYC, but the main reason we were

here was to go to times square for new years eve. We had to arrive at 4 in the arvo and still it was a struggle to get a spot in the square. It was cold (0C) and raining when we arrived but the rain stopped and we settled in for the 8 hour wait till midnight. Despite wearing pretty much every item of clothing we owned we still got realy cold, but there was live entertainment which was pretty cool. POD were the best band there but Mariah Carey and Mary J Blige were there as well as a few other acts i cant remember.

For the rest of our time in NYC we rode the subway and explored the city at our leisure.

note: Mike and i will be editing these posts as we get time, im just trying to get an outline so we can get up to date.

After our time at Chip's it was down a few streets to John and Melina's place, who are a really great couple that Fiona and Tony met at a UWA business school event. We had a great time staying with them, we've been so lucky

to have met so many cool people already.

On our last night in NYC it was up to a place called the Big Easy, on 92nd st and 2nd ave, where we were introduced by Chip's niece Katie and a couple of her friends to an american drinking game called Beirut, or Beer Pong. There was a sign on the wall that said "Beirut - Binge Drinking Made Healthy" i'm not sure about that, but thought it was funny. The deal with the game it that there are 10 of those red cups that you've all seen in the movies at each end of the table, in a triangular arrangement, and you take turns to throw ping pong balls into the cups at the other end of the table. Every one you get in, the other team has to drink that cup. When one team's cups are all gone, they have to drink all the cups at the other end of the table. We played a couple of games, and with Katie and her mate having work early in the morning, tom and i consumed the vast majority of the beers, and called it a night at 1 game
