hi! from florence.
this past weekend my program took us on a weekend trip to florence and san gimignano. florence is gorgeous. i've been there before, so this time there wasn't much of a rush to do everything. friday we got in late and didn't have time to do much of anything except wander around and grab some dinner. we did happen to wander by the ponte vecchio which is lined with amazing amazing jewelry stores. not to freak anyone out, but man those rings were to die for. i don't even care so much for the being engaged part, i just want one of those gorgeous things on my hand. oh wow. it was great. we also got some waffles which were terrific. top of the line. they're super fried, and you get heaps of things like chocolate and whipped cream on top. perfect.
so the duomo is still my favorite building in the world. again, i did not get the chance to climb to the top of the dome! roar. at least it gives me an excuse to go back. this time round we went in the uffizi galleries (thank goodness our program paid for it and got us in as a group), i'm glad i went again because there is sooo much to see in there. it is impossible to take it all in at once. best stuff.. in my opinion.. 1. the gothic ceiling panels lining the halls. complete with scary faces and distorted figures, but in a fun way. 2. botticelli's primavera. 3. perugino's pieta.
i also saw the bargello again, which i wholeheartedly recommend. donatello's david is there, and a ton of random fun things like clocks and coins and swords. also i swear there is not one regular shaped room. really, if you've been or you go or you just happen to know this information, please tell me if i'm crazy. all the rooms are funny shapes, right? just a little off? yes?
i think so.
since we only had saturday to see the city, and most of it was spend ogling at the art in the uffizi, i didn't get to see david again or see the medici chapels like i was hoping. BUT we did go up to the piazzale michelangelo where there is the most perfect view of all time. well, close. i'm not gonna lie, the view we got from san gimignano the next day does rival it. but that's for the next entry.

the other thing, we've been having good luck with being in the right place at the right time. in one day in florence we saw two separate protests and a marching latin-y band. one of the protests was school teachers who wanted.. money i think. the other was against using fur. that one had really sick pictures of skinned animals.

oh and we got chinese food. good stuff.

coincidence, i think not.
thousands of miles away, we still manage to have a connection, and that connection is of course... waffles. I have fallen in love with the local chocolate bar and their chocolate and banana covered waffles. I do believe they rival that one there in your hand. Buy one and bring it here so we can compare. I swear its a good idea. Completely doable.
