The Cathedral!
The reason why it looks so unorganized is because during the years, Kings kept adding onto it. So there are different architectural time periods. But inside, Gothic is most prevalent. So today we finally slept in.. and sleeping in means until 930am.. My definition of sleeping in has changed since in Europe 😊 The first thing we did today was go to the train/bus station to see what was the cheapest way for me to get back to Prague. We found out that there were NO buses going to Prague from Krakow OR Wroclaw... My Polish friends told me not to worry, but I assured them I was quite alright. For some reason, I wasn't so worried. So, I had to buy a train ticket which is a 6 hour ride instead of 4 hours on the bus! But Tomek assured me that the ride through the mountains was beautiful.
After we settled that, I told them I wanted to treat for lunch. Rasta recommended a Georgian restaurant, so that is what we did. I had no idea what Georgian food was like but hey it sounded good to me. I'm always up for trying new food. It was a really cute restaurant with a very warm atmosphere. We sat in the balcony at Rasta's request. The food was kind of middle-eastern/europe mix. And I LOVE middle eastern/Mediterranean food! I
Saying Goodbye!
On the train, saying goodbye out the window! had kabobs 😊 They were delicious. So listen to this... All four of us had four very generous entrees and we each had one 1/2L beer.. total cost? The equivalent to 34 USD. I think the food in Poland is even cheaper than in Czech.
After lunch, we went back to the Castle and Cathedral because it was closed when we went two days before. We opted to just tour the Cathedral. Rasta got the Polish audio guide and I got the English. It was funny because my tour was moving way faster than his... I guess Polish isn't as efficient as English 😊 The tour was very interesting especially because I wasn't expecting to hear about so much Polish history, I thought it would be more Catholic Church information, but since Poland is SUCH a Catholic nation, all of its history is tied to the church. Therefore, many of the kings' tombs were actually in the Cathedral. We also climbed the tour.. yeah I know.. ANOTHER tower.. I am really getting my exercise in Europe with these towers 😊 We were a lot higher than I anticipated because the Cathedral is on a hill, so when I looked
out the window, I was shocked to be so high. It was a beautiful view. I wish I could have taken a picture, but my camera was dead 😞
After the cathedral, we went to the train station, bought our tickets and were headed back to Wroclaw. We slept for the first half of the ride, but we got some good talks in for the second half. We talked about the difference between American and Polish humor, and even though I know they are bad, I told them about Hellen Keller jokes since that is one American theme.. at least among the young 😊 So Rasta made his own Hellen Keller joke "Hellen Keller was checking boarding passes on an airplane and Osama Binladen gave her his ticket and she scanned it and said 'Have a safe flight." Witty...very witty..
We got back to Wroclaw around 9:30pm. We decided to buy some beer and drink the Czech wine that I brought them in Rasta's sister's flat. We ended up staying up until 3:00am talking! We talked about everything under the sun.
The next morning, we woke up again around 930am. My train to Prague wasn't until 2:30, so we justate breakfast and talked some more. I treated for coffee at the train station while we were waiting. They walked me to my gate and talked to me though the train window until I left. The ride back was absolutely beautiful. I wish my camera wasn't dead! The Polish country side is so nice and the Mountains between Poland and Czech were beautiful too..
Then it was time to get back to school since I missed 3/4 of my classes from this trip! Its ok- it was syllabus week anyway😊
