flat out
catching some rays on the boat to Battambang For a third world country , some things about Cambodia are surprisingly high- tech. For instance when you buy your ticket for Angkor your photo is taken by a little camera perched to the outside of the ticket booth, then within a minute your face is printed on the temple pass, amazing really. Also the internet service is as fast as at home and where we are staying it is free!!
We had a fantastic trip to Battambang by boat. Up at 5:30 am and arrived at 1:00pm. I think it's about 140km. An unforgettable journey up the Sangker river, passing floating villages and houseboats. The view from the roof of the boat is breathtaking, and when it poured with rain we sat on the roof watching the people fishing, kids firing slingshots at birds and kids smiling, waving and yelling out hello as we passed. Then as suddenly as the rain started it stopped ,the sun came out, we steamed and dried out in minutes.
Six hours on a boat with no toilet, we had one pit stop at a little floating shop with a toilet (a hole in the planks of wood suspended over the river).

weathering the storm
Adrian on the roof of boat river is very wide in some places but at times very narrow with the boat cutting a swathe through thick jungle like reeds and even trees, as the floods have risen the waters so high. Branches went whipping past and into the boat as we ducked for cover.
