So last week was my first week of classes and I think it went quite well. My Spanish for Business class is by far my favorite. There are only 5 of us in the class and I actually get a bit nervous when I have to speak because it's been so long since I've had to speak beyond a conversational level. My vocabulary recollection is horrible right now and I am so excited to have the grammar review and the speaking practice all in the context of the business world. It's an advanced class and I really feel challenged. I'm still not used to the fact that classes are only once a week because I'm used to the reinforcement of talking about one subject twice a week. However, the timing of it all is really nice because I don't waste any time in between classes since I only have one class per day.
I also really enjoy the professors so far. I don't know if it's the new environment or the specific subjects or the professors themselves, but I feel like they are more engaging and actually want to be in class teaching. They put a more practical spin on
what they are talking about rather than just talking about the theory or the technical stuff, which puts everything into perspective. I'm finding that I'm actually paying attention for the majority or the 2-3 hour class instead of zoning out. It's probably because I had a solid 3 month break of no classes and have a fresh head. However, I'm a little worried about the grading scheme here because final exams are worth 70-80% of final grades and I will be taking them all the last week of classes since we won't be here for their exam period after the holidays in January. It's going to be stressful, but I'll get through it.
Friday morning I did the tour of Parliament with Jess before class, which was fun, but nothing special. I spent the entire weekend hanging out with Jess and Cassie in attempt to not stay home and be antisocial, but they didn't want to go out and meet new people, which was frustrating. Granted it was fun having a girls' night in, but I want to meet more Brits and mingle! There was also more complaining and negative energy going around than I would have liked so
Inside the Oldest past of Parliament
It was the only part the didn't burn down! it was a bit exhausting on top of the fact that I was sleeping on the floor again.
I spent Sunday afternoon in Regent's Park with Erin and Sharleena under the last bit of sun before it started raining last night. We then went back to Sharleena's flat to meet up with Karen and Hao-Ling for dinner. Sharleena made yummy stir fry and the girls were such great fun that I felt so much better after an exhausting weekend. I'm so happy I have Erin and that I get on so well with her friends--I can't wait for our Halloween Party so I can meet more of them!
