Northern North Island

OK we didn't sail from Auckland to the Coromandel, but I just wanted you to see where it is with respect to where we now live

I have been quite lax in publishing lately, but thanks to Jeremy who fixed the problem I was having uploading photos for travelblog, I am back in business!!!

It is now November, but in September Jeremy and his friend Dave visited us in New Zealand. Rand and I had moved in August to the North Island (more on that in a later blog) so this was one of our first explorations in the North.

After picking Jeremy and Dave up at Auckland airport, we whisked them about 2 hours south to the Coromandel Peninsula for a few days. This was the first time Rand and I had been there as well. We were quite impressed with the beauty of the place; vibrant blues and greens and dramatic sea views abound!! A high road across the peninsula, the"309 Highway" took us to the Waterworks, a kind of playground with goofy engineering tricks involving water, and a lovely waterfall. We stayed in Whitianga at a hostel called "On the Beach" which lived up to its name!! In addition to some sightseeing, we kayaked and tramped to Cathedral Cave (there is another one of the same name in the

Catlins) and got wet at Hot Water Beach!!

We then took the guys back to the airport and they caught a flight to the South Island for a 10 day loop trip of our favorite sights and I returned to work. See their facebook entries for pictures of that part of their trip!! Upon their return to Auckland, Dave had to fly home, but Jeremy stayed a few more weeks..........to be the subject of the next blog!!

Pictures in this blog taken by Rand and Jeremy (and a few by Dave, too!!) thanks, guys!!

Great memories!
Robin, We loved looking at your photos of the Coromandel Pennisula. We drove there in 2003 on our 34 day trip to NZ. Your photos really capture the beauty of NZ that is indescribable in words! Glad to know Jerermy is there with you now. We sailed on a weekend trip with your parents and Jeremy when Jeremy was 13. And he already was such a help to your Dad in sailing the boat! Did you ride the little train? The owner of the motel we stayed in recommended it and it was interesting and had great views.
