Flowers and kir royale
The Green Dolphin restaurant in Cape Town is very romantic and the live jazz is ace On our final night in Cape Town Simon presented me with a big sparkly ring.
Unfortunately the proposal wasn't what I had dreamed it would be as he got down on one knee in our room at the Long Street Backpackers which may be a perfectly adequate hostel but is not in any way romantic. He says he was going to do it up Table Mountain but the weather was against us. But he said some very soppy things and the ring is big and sparkly so I said yes. He had the ring specially made because I had dropped many hints over the years as to what I wanted. He chose a near flawless princess cut diamond and had it set in a platinum band flanked by two tapered baguettes. Beautiful.
After the 'proposal' we went and checked into the four star Grand Daddy hotel and went out for a wonderful fishy meal in a live jazz restaurant at the harbour. We even scored a free bottle of champagne at the hotel because I mentioned when checking in that we had just got engaged. This ruse may come in handy for further destinations of our trip!
So we
ended our African adventure on a real high and headed back to the UK for three short days of packing and preparing for the next leg of our round the world tour. America here we come!
