GC- Desert View
a series of my last photo's of the canyon Grand canyon to Sedona.
I drove the Desert View Drive on the way out of the Grand Canyon, based on my best guide book the National Geographic guide to National Parks - this book has some great reviews! Another shameless “product” plug for this book. I stopped at a couple of overlooks and just when I thought I had seen enough of the Grand Canyon, it takes my breath away again. Unfortunately I did not get on the road early enough (took the time to upload my last couple of entries!) and the sun was at that point that seems to wash out pictures… you shutter bugs out there must know what I’m talking about. I am still uploading a few of the best. There were expansive views on the Desert View Drive with better views of the Colorado River, especially at the Watchtower. The history and geology of this area is fantastic - it has been a great trip so far.
I headed from there to Sedona, out of the park and in to a thunderstorm. Yes it is the t-storm time of year but that’s ok, I love them. I took a picture of a thunderhead I
thought was pretty cool but as usual, the picture does not do it justice (and I snapped it thru my windshield while driving down a highway!). took the road through Oak Valley Canyon and it was just spectacular. You must be getting sick of me using the words “spectacular” “gorgeous” “beautiful” “breath-taking” so I’ll do my best to come up with some new adjectives.
But it really was spectacularly beautiful. My favorite combinations - the deep red rocks with bright green from the canyon, complemented by the shades of brown from tree trunks and splashes of yellow, white and purple flowers. Some of my pictures are going to be out of order here so I can showcase the things I talk about as I experience them. The road through the canyon is very twisty and I had cars in front and behind me so I could not even manage to snap my moving photo’s…
On to Sedona and in to my hotel. A spa hotel and it is great - the most comfy beds, the spa of course, and a view of the red rocks from my balcony.
I’m just going to say it now. I’m in love
with Arizona and this area in particular. I am. It might have replaced Napa/Sonoma as my favorite place to be. Maybe…
I woke up early and went on an off-road jeep tour- it was so much fun!! Pink Jeeps - the oldest jeep touring company in the area (according to them). I took the Broken Arrow tour back in to the red rocks and the jeep climbed right up on those rocks. I have pictures (that I will probably not show all here) of rock formations that have inventive and descriptive names: the submarine, cathedral rock with the praying nuns, sleeping whale, the mushrooms, flying saucer… there was also Yogi, the princess and snoopy - a few others but I did not see them… and the most favorite of my wonderful guide and probably myself is the eagle (picture shown). We went up and down a 45 degree slopes in that jeep and it was so much fun and over way too soon.
Even though this is not the end or beginning of a day, I’ll end this entry here because the next one is quite long. I need to break it up a bit I think… I
am not sure how long of a blog I can include at once!

The geography of the areas you are passing through is just unmatched. You left behind a heat wave in California, over 10 here today in San Carlos.
