Can you find the crater and the moussaka?
Three weeks roaming through the Greek islands and the Peloponnese is one cool way to end a trip through Europe. Greece is:
* warm balmy nights and hot dry days
* incredibly blue water
* blue skies and no summer rains
* outstanding sunsets
* windmills and windy days
* hot spanikopita (spinach pie) and cappuccino for breakfast
* yummy home cooked Greek food always eaten al fresco
* going to the restaurant kitchens to select your food
* checking ferry schedules
* catching ferries and watching ferries come and go
* octopus drying on clothes lines in the local restaurants
* piles of fishing nets being untangled by the fishermen
* fresh fish and more fresh fish
* late night dining and very quiet mornings
* backgammon
* harbors busy with fishing boats and expensive yachts
* hundreds of blooming bouganvillaes
* stately olive trees and fresh figs
* Greek widows dressed all in black
* men playing with their worry beads
* friendly, outgoing, and helpful people
* smiles of pride when you complement the quality of the produce
* excellent gelatto
* frappes on hot afternoons
* hot gravely beaches and chilly water
* long walks along the water and in the interior
* dogs that don't bark and a multitude of cats
* crowded local buses
* outdoor theaters
* ancient ruins and landmarks
* aromatic pine and juniper forests
* grapes growing like small bushes on the ground
* town squares filled with families and tourists enjoying the cool of the evening
* getting lost in the old town winding and steep rocky cliffs
* harbors, old towns, new towns, fortresses, shops, coffee cafes, cats, and donkeys
* blue, very, very blue!

We returned to FL on 8/20 and have been doing some short trips to visit family and friends. FL is its typical self for this time of year - hot, humid, and rainy. Plans are in the works for the next journey, but nothing concrete to report at this time. Till then we'll be enjoying our time at home.

Ciao for now, RPM

Melissa and I have known each other since 7th grade. With all of our traveling throughout the years, our paths crossed for the first time in Santorini.
