Soooooooo ...... apologies all, have been completely rubbish, and to be frank was having far too much fun in Taipei to dedicate sufficient time to Travelblog i'm afraid so again i find myself very very behind! in an effort to catch up quickly i have decided to let this entry be more of a story by pictures... i.e. a lot less text (... i hear some of you exhaling a sigh of releif!!...)
Sooooo, TAIPEI, TAIWAN!!
It all started off very well, had booked my flight with KLM and was so excited about 4 fun packed days in Taipei with Jo and Akira! flight went smoothly.... except for the fact that now my coral wound had swollen up quite a bit so that my foot and lower leg resembled that of the marshmallow man in the ghostbusters movie and it had started to weep a wee bit which was fairly disgusting. Arrived in Taipei a few hours later and was met by Jo at the airport, was sooooooo lovelz seing her and we chatted excitedlz the whole 45 min journez in the taxi to hers from the airport (apparently Taipei airport is not actually in Taipei... go figure!). Got
My heart shaped wound!
at least i managed to have a pretty shaped flesh rot - this was after op No. 1 and was pretty gross! went right down to the bone, lovely! back to Jo and AkiraƤs apartment and was poured a GnT straight away! (another reason i love her so much!!) caught up on things then started to discuss my leg .... she was very concerned, i said its fine it doesnt hurt.... she got more concerned. several of her friends from Taipei came round and we all went for dinner .... they were all also very concerned .... i started wondering whether i too should perhaps start to get concerned? Turns out i should have been concerned a little earlier...
Most of you already know the story, ended up in A and E first night in Taipei and the Doctor got very concerned and tried to admit me there and then but the doctor i needed to see wasnt going to be in til the next day and id just arrived etc so went back to Jo and Akiras for the night and went back the following morning where they admitted me imediately and i didnt leave for 9 days... as you can see from the photos though Jo, Akira and friends did a brilliant job of looking after me, bringing me food and keeping me very well entertained
Dumpling Picnic!
Jo and Akira keep me well fed and watered during my stay!! thanks guys!! for the stay! thank you so much guys!!
11th July - so got out of hospital (FINALLY!!!) on the 11th July slightly stir crazy wanting to see some of the city id spent a week in already but hadnt seen! Jo sorted that straight out and we hopped on the back of her scooter and went to the flower market and Jade market. went for a BBQ at Art and Stans that evening then back to Sarahs for a hip hop pool party on her roof.... lots of gin, even more wine, very funny!
12th July - spent recovering...
eventually managed to drag ourselfs to the antique market - incredible!!
13th - 15th July - Spent trzing to rest my leg as much as possible and going out for dinner with Jo every evening. went to the National Palace Museum too which was really interesting and was the first time i had actually thought in quite minute detail the best way to rob a museum... was it Catherine Zeta-Jones in entrapment... anyway spent a lot of time checking out the position of security cameras and wondering where the movement sensors would be .... in otherwords the collection
Team wheelchair!!
drunken antics - all sorts of fun can be had in a hospital!! was amazing!! Weds night Johan came round and i made bangers and mash for all of us followed by vodka and mango smoothies - yum!!
16th July - went to Chang Kai Shek memorial - beautiful day and beautiful memorial...
17th - very lazy apart from trip to hospital.... still not allowed my stitiches out, got Akira to extend my flight for a second time to the 27th July..
18th July - went to Longshun Temple with Jo and Akira - amaying!! Akira taught me all about the different processes involved with Buddhist worship and i made my wish to the gods and got mz fortune from them .... very interesting!! The three of us went for dinner at an amazing Sushi place (so good infact that this place had a que that by the time the restaurant opened went right the way down the street!! fortunately we had been about 10th in line!).
19th July - Antiques market then facepacks and red wine and a movie at the apartment.
20th - 21st July - didnt do much, enjoyed realxing around the apartment and had to go to the Drs again ... still not got
my stitches out!!! Akira gave me my Chinese name! - lots of fun and a bottle of red wine to choose it!
22nd July - Trip to Chiufen - got the train north east of Taipei up to a town in the mountains called Chiufen. olg mining town that the Japanese used to mine gold during their occupation, now more of a tourist attraction with beautiful steep winding streets, teahouses and stunning views of the surrounding maountains and sea. learnt the art of teamaking and spent the daz wondering round the town.
rest of time in Taipei spent sightseeing and spending time with Jo and Akira, including an amazing weekend in the mountains at a Lizs apartment, before finally getting stitches out and being cleared to carry on traveling and flying back to Thailand on the 27th July...
apologies for briefness but so far behind now and need to catch up!!
