Early Summer
Home for us is a 14-acre farm in the Appalachian mountains of Western North Carolina, in the United States.

We live in a cove under a mountain at the end of a dirt road.

On a summer day you don’t hear anything but the bugs bumping against your windows, and birds chirping, and children squealing.

It’s very green at our house. It looks like the jungle, only not quite.

Crazy children run around everywhere. Most of them are related to us in some way.

We have two puppies. We talk about them a lot. Sometimes they smell like stinkle. When we leave them, we will all cry voraciously.

Last night we went on a tour of our town in a purple bus. A man dressed in a nun’s habit accosted us on a 10-foot high bicycle. He said we were sinners, but later we saw him (her?) drinking a beer.

Today two friends came to visit. They threw tissue papers on Ella because she is going on a long trip. They brought her some rocks to take with her.

In August we leave on a 10-month trip to Southeast Asia, then Paris.
