Our New Best Friend Doug has now left and we somehow managed not to see him before his departure. He started off as a nice guy and before our eyes turned into a very nice guy. Spent last night in his company waiting for a Valentine’s bonfire party that just didn’t ever seem to start. Maybe the three of us misread the flyer. There was a small firework display though that miraculously went off fine without a method statement, risk assessment or an enviromental impact assessment. Top effort!! Doug had not had a drink since his arrival, Barb and I had been pretty abstemious, but last night was a different story. I woke this morning to my first hangover in Thailand, quite a mild one by past standards though. While on the subject of NBF, he and his friend Lori are on a trip RTW and they have a PROPER blog going. If any of you want to read more informative stuff about SE Asia they can be found at

NBF and me worked our way through the cocktail menu, know the first one (that we had 2 of) had cointreau and vodka in not sure about the rest, remember ending up drinking lots of beer to rehydrate and getting to bed before 3 but lucky my sleep pattern is back to normal so I woke in time to see the sunrise, its sunny today - just chillin with a cold beer. and hoping it stays like this calm seas ‘cos otherwise is gonna be hell getting on the boat.

Sorry I missed you!
Hi Jon and Barb! Thanks for the post on the blog! I am sorry I somehow missed saying goodbye. I came down to the restaurant after yoga, had lunch, and then walked down the beach to take the long boat to Haad Rin. I probably went too early, but you never know when those long boats are going to leave! Ended up getting overtaken by a big wave and drenched my pack even though the sea was calm... oh well. Made it to Samui and late last night to Bangkok. I'll be here until Sunday (first available flight) when I depart for Luang Prabang, Lao, to meet Lori. It was just great meeting you two! Have very safe travels and do keep in touch! my email is douglas_whitman@hotmail.com take care, Doug
