I think he got a bit of a kick out of me, poor bugger. Day 2 of London.
27 degrees & sunshine again in lovely London! What a great day to sightsee and people watch. London has left a very positive impression on us. It has so much history & architecture of course, but the people is what has really fascinated us. It feels very chic, cultured & hip. Gorgeous guys in tailored suits, and the men are not afraid to wear pink here. Women in trendy, ultra high heels and in every style.
We saw Trafalgar square, the changing of the guard, Buckingham Palace, St Paul’s Cathedral, Westminster Abbey, Big Ben, the Tower of London, Harrods, the London Tower bridge, the Thames River and more. My favorite part so far was the bottom of St Paul’s in the crypt where all of the tombs are, I was surprised with how much I liked it. The walk down to the crypt had a medallion or a shield above the door with skulls on it, very cool for a church. I can remember Lady Diana being wed in this cathedral and her funeral procession to it all televised of course. And remember outside the palace all of the flowers after her death? I can
still picture that too when I look at the gates of the palace.
The Tower of London was also fun, with catapults & talk of beheadings. This is where we got to see all of the crown jewels, this is where they are on display for the public, but no cameras allowed in that section. The moat is filled with skanky looking water that once carried some nasty diseases to insure anyone escaping had little hope of making it very far. A few ravens are kept at the tower and the story goes that the Brits have a superstition that if the ravens leave, the tower will come down & the kingdom will fall. Another story was about an author (It’s 3:30 am at home…I can’t think too clearly this early :P) was kept in the Bloody Tower and at his beheading his wife asked to keep his head. They were kind enough to grant it to her. She proceeded to take it home, boil it in herbs and had it dry out. Then she carried it for years until her death, at which time the head was lost. Isn’t that love?
The boat ride on the Thames
was fun because we could sit and watch the sites go by, many of the ones I’ve listed are clearly viewed on the Thames. We’ve spoken to people from all over... Italians, Romanian, Estonian, a New Zealander, American & Canadians. So many accents and I guess that means we have one too. We ended the night at a pub downtown and it was nice to sit outside and watch the world go by (I need to go shoe shopping!) and this is where we saw the drag queen go by. I loved watching the guys faces as he/she went by, hehehe! … I don’t have time to label all my pics right now, but I will throw some of my best up for you.
Today we fly over to Barcelona! And everyone speaks highly of it. Can’t wait!
