Well, I’m back in Paris now. I think things are finally starting to settle down after an incredible stretch of travel with family and then a trip to another continent. I’m battling some tummy issues now after returning from Morocco (no, no swine) but I figured I use my down time to catch up on my blogs ☺
On Monday April 13 I finally got to see my Mom, Dad and Kellen! I hadn’t seen Dad and Kel since I left in September, 7 months! I thought I had had a day of travel after walking, taking a metro, taking the Eurostar Chunnel, taking the London Underground, then an hour bus to London Stansted, but when I arrived at the airport to meet the family (which I found in an Irish Airport Pub) they won the travel award going on about 30 hours straight. So, here we all were the family together in London and on our way to Croatia! We arrived in Zadar, about an hour away from our final destination, Trogir, with a Citroen rental car that was too small, and a dysfunctional GPS. It was actually pretty hilarious to start off the trip, and once we started
driving with two suitcases piled up between my Mom and I in the back, the GPS kicked on and started spitting out highways and street names in Croatian. All was well, when we finally arrived at our tower in Trogir and sat down to eat the coconut cake that my mother had transported all the way from Bainbridge (which was even more delicious after finding its way back to us after being left on the bus from Heathrow to Stansted). The cake had made it and so had we.
Location #1:Trogir is a small town surrounded by water about 45 minutes away from the bigger port city Split. The apartment we had found was an actual tower. The first floor was my parents bedroom, the second floor the kitchen, the third floor my bedroom, the fourth floor a bathroom, the fifth floor loft and Kellen’s room. Each floor just had the one room on it. It was a neat set-up, just maybe not for Kellen. Trogir was lined with café’s and restaurants along the waterfront and small, windy streets through the walled city. We spent most of the day in Split, walking around the old town and climbing up
to a beautiful view of the city. It was nice to be able to take breaks at café’s, drink a beer, and enjoy relaxing with the family.
The next day we headed to Krka National Park. Krka is a smaller version of the Plitvice National Park, which is known for it’s numerous waterfalls and hikes. I was really impressed by Krka. They had trails that crossed over the rivers and waterfalls and perfect viewpoints and places to picnic. After walking around the park and driving up to the Roski Slap falls, we stopped at an undiscovered inlet town right where the ocean and the river meet.
Location #2: From our stay in Trogir we headed up north to explore Plitvice National Park. We didn’t have housing arranged for this stay, but since it wasn’t tourist season yet we had no problem finding “Zimmer Apartments” to stay in. We found a little spot in a valley below the park which had a river and it’s own waterfall in the backyard. We spent our nights here drinking wine and playing cards and rental bicycles and hiked during the days. For the day at Plitvice we opted for the 4-6 hour hiking
route that followed and crossed the waterfalls. We were fortunate with the weather and finished our day with a beautiful view of the biggest waterfall in the park.
