Hi again
arrived in Gulu after a good trip. The entire trip was about 380kms and there were people walking along the main road for the entire trip, on bicylces laden with firewood, carrying water in 20L jerry cans on their head, and every so often a small community of huts, surrounded by red red fertile soil. We saw some wonderful baboons sitting on the side of the road!!
Our driver Edward dropped us at Alcholi Inn, Gulu and promptly sped off for the trip back to Entebbe with my big blue bagpack in the boot. Man , we felt stupid and thank God we had his mobile and he came back with the bag, poor guy. We had Bell beer out in the garden, OK numerous beers, and a great chat with some Development workers from Uganda and Kenya. The whole political system here is so dysfunctional and frustrating for all the Alcholi people and the workers, particulalry since the funding has been cut, and the people are living in dreadful condiitions in the IDP camps. We are meeting with Carl Gaede today, an American guy who is manager of Wototo, and we will get to sit in on the Empower Rehabilitation Program.
We are both in good spirits, over the jetlag and excited and apprehensive about what is ahead. Thank you everyone for your messages, it is so nice to have contact. Hi Lisa, Great updates. Sounds like a big overhaul is needed for their system. Many prayers for those in the area and in the camps. Good wishes for the days ahead.
