Meeting Aunty Agnes and children Meeting Aunty Agnes and children Meeting Aunty Agnes and children

Fi and I waiting for church service meet an amazing woman Agnes who runs school and orphanage. Spend a great day with her!
Hi everyone
We arrived in Entebbe Uganda on Saturday evening after a good flight from J'Berg. Met an Australian lady, Glenda and Gavin Williams, LttN Ministries who trained with Pastor Phil from Maroochy Baptist!! They have been living and working in Africa for years, so she was able to give us some good advice. We got picked up from the airport and went to The Boma B and B in Entebbe, the most gorgeous place near Lake Victoria (man that Lake is enormous, but unfortunately filthy). The B and B was surrounded by tropical gardens and we sat out on the verandah with a G and G and felt very blessed! The next day, had a plan to walk into town and visit a church service, the Botanical Gardens, and to a local pizza place for lunch. However, all those plans went out the window, when a beautiful Ugandan woman Agnes sat next to us outside the church and introduced herself. She owns a school , whcih has 200 students and 80 boarders. She was adament that we were her guests for the days and drove us around Entebbe to visit the sites all day! It was amazing, we dropped into

Amazing little children who only have one size fits all bike, and ride with their leg under the bar.
her friends place and even had lunch with her family at her own place, so we got to have traditional Alcholoi food and hospitality. We loved meeting all the people, the gulf between poverty and wealth was grotesque, the President Musqueveni lives in the State House at the top of the street, and the slums were at the bottom of the street. It was quite upsetting walking around the slums, and markets - you can imagine the poverty, malnutrition and disease. We had a beautiful moment when 3 little boys rode up to us on the biggest bicyles I have ever seen. They ride with their leg between the cross bars!! There are no tarred roads, and potholes as big moon craters!!
When we got back to our room that day, and we realised that we had the wrong suitcase and had left our suitcase full of pencils, toys etc for kids and we had someone elses suitcase instead!! Agnes took us back to the airport, but they claimed they had lost the bag. Fortunately the next day we paid some random $20 and he miraculously found it!
Left on Monday morning to catch our Eagle Air flight to Gulu at 11.30am. Arrived at airport to be informed that they had changed the time to 8am, but failed to tell us. We then hustled, and hired a driver to take us to Gulu a 5hr30min drive on some pretty rough roads. Wonderful experience as we got to see the countryside.

The long way to Gulu
Well there certainly is no dull moments over there by the sounds of things. Shame about lake Victoria being dirty. I guess that is what to expect when the whole of that part of Africa drains into it. I guess you are seeing first hand what the place is like now. It will be interesting to hear your stories and how the place could be made to progress to a more equitable place... but need lots of education and local champions to make that happen. Take plenty of pics, particularly with the Ugandan do!!. love you xxx
