Back in Bariloche

We made in back to Bariloche in one piece (which is more than can be said for the car, which we treated to a full clean inside and out, in an attempt to disguise what we had put it through). On Saturday we hired rods and spent the day fishing in the lake. Well, not the whole day - we stayed up late on Friday, drinking with some Americans, and consequently slept through Saturday morning and missed the best fishing hours. Oops. Even though all the other fishermen had gone home by the time we finally reached the lake, nursing our hangovers, we were optimistic. We had a good time, although unfortunately, the only thing we caught was the sun. We had promised an extravagant trout supper to everyone at the hostel, but returned with an empty bucket and red faces. We bought some horribly sweet (but cheap) wine for morale, and another night of revelry ensued...

We are loving are time at this hostel, which is 7km out of town and run by a young, newly-married couple who are really sweet and would do anything to help us. They bake fresh bread every day, which we readily coat with their homemade jam. We have met lots of interesting people, including a nice guy called Matthias, who is travelling the world, and who we plan to meet up with again in Northern Chile. Matthias is on an even tighter budget that us. He even hitch hikes every time he goes into Bariloche, usually waiting over an hour for a lift, to save paying the bus fare. On the day he left he caught the bus with us to town, and was more than a little peeved to discover the bus fare was only 1.60 pesos. For all his efforts and hours waiting in the rain, he had saved only 23 pence. Still, Mattias has come a long way on very few Euros, and this makes us hopeful that we will be able to stay here past our revised departure date.

(Pictures coming very soon, we promise!! The minute we find a computer that works!)
