A lot of European cities have a castle in the city center. Edinburgh's city center looks like one big castle. It's maybe the most scenic city I've ever been to. Everywhere you look there is a castle or spire or a medievel looking building. At the city center is Edinburgh castle on top of a hill in the middle of the city. There are also a ton of meuseams. In fact the entire castle is one large collection of museum, with meuseams dedicated to the Scottish Royal Jewels (a sword, a crown and sceptre ... which you're not allowed to take pictures of), a meuseam of Scottish soldiers at war in the last 400 years, a museaum dedicated to Mary Queen of Scotts and other former Scottish Queens & Kings. The entire castle tour can last the better part of a day if you want to go over every detail. I've also spent time walking the city, as it is a great walking city. Everything is centrally located.

I also spent my first night in a hostel. There seems to be two types ... the seedy looking, kinda dirty, hole in the wall that the hardcore travelers frequent and the McHostel that's usually populated by college students as involved in the nightlife as the cultural experience (if not more so). This one fell into the first category. Everyone was really nice, although I was the only native English speaker in my room, and they prefered to speak their native German. I picked up a few phrases though that should be helpfull in Munich and Austria. On the flight to Paris the airport was swarmed by men wearing kilts. Scotland is playing the Netherlands (I think) for a big World Cup Qualifying match, and they were all dressed up in their traditional Scotish Dress to fly to support their team.
