Our New Scooter Our New Scooter Our New Scooter

It was an exciting moment for Nathanael to sit on our new little Vespa for the first time.
On Saturday, February 21, we undertook the last big activity during our stay in Florida. This was to purchase a tiny, Vespa scooter so Nathanael and Mom could tour the sights and make short errand runs while on the road. Since Mom’s knees are giving out, the bicycles are not proving to be the best way to get around. It was an exciting day when we went to pick up the scooter and drive it back to our camper. This little machine can only achieve a maximum speed of 35 mph so it took about an hour to make the twenty-minute trip from Ormond Beach to Port Orange. Mom was nervous but Nathanael was very excited and it was a hoot to see him in his helmet. Our new friend, Joan Coverly, was kind enough to drive us to the Vespa dealer and then lead us by the back roads to get home.

The next step was to have welding work completed to build a rack on the back of our RV that would actually hold the new scooter. This was accomplished at “The Car Shop” in Holly Hill, just north of Port Orange. They did the job
Bye Everyone! Bye Everyone! Bye Everyone!

It was with tight throats and teary eyes that we waved goodbye to our friends .... or rather our new family, .... in Port Orange. These people have become a part of our hearts.
with excellent workmanship and we have been able to travel with our new purchase safe and secure. They took very good care of Nathanael and me, even coming out to rescue us one day when we got stuck somewhere in an RV that wouldn't start. What good people.

Sunday, February 22 was the last time the choir sang in church. What a wonderful group of people volunteered to help with this project. They have all become very dear to our hearts. Ash Wednesday evening service was the last time we worshipped in Port Orange. Pastor Dobberstein asked me to assist with the music of the Holden Evening Service. I sang an antiphonal melody to one of the hymns. All of the choral pieces were absolutely beautiful! Pastor Dobberstein always picks such incredible music and orders of worship. The services are always uplifting.

And then all too soon it was Thursday morning, February 26, and time to say farewell to all our new friends from Our Savior’s. We even had a farewell committee to see us off. We drove away with tight throats and tears in our eyes knowing we may not see these people again this side of heaven. Our Port Orange family will always be in our prayers. We will miss them.

Our next blog entry will begin the story of our trip from Port Orange, Florida to Tucson, Arizona, and all the stops in between.

Good on you! You're going to love the Vespa. Makes me want to go out and get that motorcycle I've been thinking about. Take care though and make sure to wear those helmets even when its really hot... ;-)
