Hello again! It is I, the one with the blonde.
Czech Republic... Of course they took advantage of the English language and printed things like 'Czech me out' on their souvenirs so that silly tourists would laugh and be all touristy and buy it.
Day 1
We arrived at 7am after only having less that two hours sleep.. Thats less than four hours sleep in 2 nights! however, the reason for not sleeping was very different this time. We marched into a berth with only two people in it. I said 'may we join you?' he said '50 Euros', which was when I realised he was an Aussie and stopped taking him seriously! (im not a racist, I love all people! - EVEN Hannah Smith) He was a really kind guy who suggested we lock our bags and that we shouldn't fall asleep. The reason for that (which we obviously missed in the guide book) was because the Krakow to Praha train route is a notoriously dangerous crime hotspot... hmm. We talked to him until some ridiculous hour in the morning (he was trying to stay awake too). Luckily we didnt experience anything bad... but it wasnt hard to
Really exciting busker man
We took lots of photos, Mim and Alice danced lots to the entertaintment of a couple of Czech ladies before giving him our change! :) believe that its a dangerous train, as there are two armed guards going through the cabins every half hour! Apparently one of the crimes that happens onboard is with gas... they filter gas into your cabin while you sleep and after you pass out, they break in and steal any of your belongings... Shoes, wallets, bags, Lilly.
When we did reach the border by the way, we were OK, we didnt get chucked off... Only our passports were Czeched and that was it. At the border tha Polish guards got off the train, but the Czech ones didnt get on... so basically Poland was saying 'your on your own mate' :/. Randomly a Czech ticket man came in and asked for tickets. We said we speak only English, sorry and he sort of rolled his eyes as if to say 'not again' (which is the case on almost every train!)... He too didnt believe our tickets were valid, but after Lilly basically said 'NO YOU ARE WRONG, I AM YOUR OWNER' he gave up and stamped it, then slammed the door shut and moved on. Oh Lilly. I hope we haven't messed our tickets up.. they are tiny and
if everyone stamps it, we wont have any space left by the time we get to Italy!
After getting off the train we tried to head to the hostel. Our brains were mushy from the lack of sleep, and our packs really felt heavy. We said 'see ya bruce' to our Aussie friend who wasnt called Bruce, and then headed for the hostel after drawing some money out with Bruce. We reached the hostel after 30 minutes and tried to Czech in. Unfortunately the rooms wouldnt be ready until mid-day. We went to the free internet room and Mim crashed on the kitchen floor. After 20 minutes a heavily bearded man came downstairs and offered Miriam to sleep in his bed... My ears pirked up to hear Mim say 'oh yeah that would be great' and off they went. Luckily he was a nice guy (we met him later on) and Miriam was safe.
We eventually went to Czech in at 12:00noon. It was so close but so far, because in my tired state I couldnt inderstand why this guy wanted our money, all I wanted was a key and a bed behind a simple wooden door. This
James Mim and Lilly
view from the castle was not going to happen until we paid, put in a deposit for the keys and got our hostel passes. I was almost ready to break into the room (which was directly above reception) and stomp on the floor whilst shouting 'how do you like me now Gordon!' (thats not his name). We got into the room at probably 12:03, and that was it. The next time my eyes opened, everyone was passed out and not waking up ever. Lukcily they did though and we had dinner. Unfortunatly we messed up our body clocks and I was up at 2am writing a really long email to a friend.
Day 2
Thats today! Wohay! this is the first time since the beginning we have been writing an update on the same day as the Yeah you get the point.
Today we all sat down and sorted out things that were irritating one another. We managed to sort it out and everyone was in a good mood afterwards. Today was also Alices turn at leading the group around town. It was really good. We saw all the old town, which is really beautiful and the Prague Castle which is an
unbelievably stunning area.
We all gathered around a massive clock in the old town city centre at 4pm. Apparently amazing things happen every hour. We were there with about 200 other people and 4pm came. The clock opened up and the 12 disciples started spinning around inside it. Most of us were silent and then at the end, there was an awkward round of applause followed by alot of cheering. Either the locals really loved the clock, or we were a group of tourist who didnt realise how stupid we looked watching a clock for 10 minutes. (time goes really slow when you look at it)
At some point in the day, we walked passed a phone box that was playing music. Rather than think 'why does this phone sing' Mim and Alice started dancing and I stood near them shouting 'Travellers from London, any spare change? spare change anyone? Lilly was incredibly embarrassed and decided to not know us. This was our second attempt at failed begging. Earlier on, Mim and I practised Sunday Bloody Sunday on a plate and cup... One day we will make it!
On our way home, we popped into Czech Republic
Tesco. We found lots of good stuff (fruit and veg) and bought an entire trolly worth of food for 9 pounds!!! Whilst we were in there, I saw a homeless guy who really obviously slipped a big packet of meat into his jacket, and casually walked out of the supermarket. I wondered if I should say something but decided he might stab me or die as a result of not having food. hmm.
Hello! I havnt touched this since we left Czech Republic... and thats the last time we wrote anything on the blog, so anything that has already ben written may be repeated...
Our final day in the Republic of Czech was brilliant. We had dinner in a really nice restaurant for cheap cheap. I didnt think much of the local favourite beer 'Pilsner' - may be spelt wrong.
