First job of the day was to walk into town and book a ticket for a sailing trip on Lake Taupo. After this we spent the next couple of hours wandering round Taupo town until the ferry left at 2pm. After lunch we went down to Cherry Island which is on the river near the bungy so Oli could have a swim in the fast flowing clear river.

We set sail on the Barbary a vintage sailing boat built, launched and raced in 1927 in California and once owned by Eroll Flynn it is said that he won it in a card game. It was really warm in the sunshine and not many clouds in the sky which made it a lovely afternoon. The boat took us cruising round Acacia Bay and to some Maori rock carvings before stopping for everyone to jump off and have a swim in the clear blue water. We sailed back to the harbour which was very relaxing.

As it was such a lovely evening we decided to drive a couple of hours alongside the length of the lake to the south shore to stay the night. The small harbour we stopped at was very quiet although full of moored boats. We only saw one boat leave which was full of lads off for an evenings water skiing. They had the whole part of this end of the lake to themselves, Oliver was very jealous.
