That's right, we made it! All of the traveling went really well. All of our flights were on time and we actually got to San Francisco and Seoul a little early. On the way to San Francisco, we got to see a whole lot of mountains from the plane. We were flying what felt kind of low and there were almost no clouds to block our view as we flew over the western states. I was really surprised by how it looked to fly into San Fran. It was mountains, mountains, nothingness, boom! city! It was really pretty. By the time we actually arrived in San Francisco I was famished. The only two things I was worried about were food and shower and I felt MUCH better after both. We had to go out of security in order to shower, so since we were going to have to go through security to get back in anyway, we decided to step outside for a little while. It was gorgeous outside!
Going back through security I forgot to take my water bottle out of my laptop case (I put it in there so I didn't have to carry it separately). The x-ray, of course, saw it and pushed my bag back through the x-ray machine. Fortunately, they were really cool about it. I asked them if I could just drink it all quick so that I could save the bottle. He said that was fine. Then the guy that checks you after you walk through the metal detector gave me a hard time, "you can't come through now Miss, you're all full of water." haha Immediately after that I got the pleasure of having a lady search my carry on. My tuner/metronome was in there and apparently it looked suspicious. Once the lady found it, she took it out, looked it over and then ran this white round paper over it. I never really thought of how that thing might look going through an x-ray machine, I guess not too many people carry those around.
There were so many other English teachers on our flight to Seoul. I felt surrounded. There were 400 some people that flew in yesterday for the program that we are working with. Everything was very easy to find. We got off of the plane, picked up our luggage, went through customs, and easily found the EPIK check-in counter. We grabbed a quick snack before catching the next bus to the university where we are staying for orientation. Mike got some "pretzels". haha. Or rather, he thought they were pretzels when he bought them but it was more like fried dough in a bag. It tasted like a bagged funnel cake. I had some apple flavored drink yogurt. I liked it. :P I also saw some interesting dried meat that I'm pretty sure was fish. In fact, the one thing was really tiny fish and it still had eyes. Sweet. I also saw Nesquick but written in Korean.
It took us about two hours to get to the university that we are staying at for orientation. Check-in was pretty straight forward. Got our name tag, our group number, a sweatshirt, our room assignment, a bag of random stuff (including our inch think orientation manual :0 ) and then we grabbed our luggage which had been unloaded for us and headed up to our room.
The room is really nice. It is pretty much your typical dorm room with a bathroom too. There is no curtain that separates the shower from the rest of the bathroom (I've heard before I left that this is the standard in SK). There are two drains in the floor so you could pretty much run around and splash and make a mess while taking a shower and it wouldn't much matter. :P We have internet access in our rooms this week. We are here until next Friday. Then we will go to our province and it's up in the air what happens after that.
We are 14 hours ahead of home (so it is 4:14pm Thursday at home right now and it is 6:14am Friday here). Orientation starts today. Breakfast is supposed to be at 7:30. I hope so because I am so hungry. I ate the last of my granola bars last night. Well, that's all for now!
