Edit Blog Post
Hi all! Well Terry typed a lovely blog this morning....then I added the photos as he listened to the Calgary/Vancouver Game and now the blog is gone....can never really know why around here haha! Anyway it is the last 5 minutes of the game and Calgary is leading at the moment. I will blabber on a bit til he can do his blog!
It is hard to believe our trip is almost over..we are eager to get home now though so I guess that is how it should be. I know Brenda Gord and Fletcher took great care of Chevy.
We heard the partiers last night but our more usual sounds are the geckos, dogs, crickets and of course the roosters. They start each morning with the other birds. We have been on the early shift this trip..early to bed and early to rise. Sunrise 6:30 Sunset 6:30.
The Thai people have been so friendly. I think as we have visited areas that are not over run with tourists that the locals have not been changed by us yet. Everyone seems to have a friend that can help us out, give us a ride or tell us a
Kelley and Ya!
Our very pleasant and helpful Thai friend. story. The families are huge and work together! We me a fellow from England who married a Thai women and filled us in on much of their way of life. The schools, military, farming, tourism, fishing etc.
OH NO 3-3 with 30 seconds left.....Oh NO 1 more minute then shoot out (Oh our real life is coming back to me now haha) OH NO again...think Terry will finish the blog later when he is in a better mood!
Hi There Me again. We are back in Bangkok for our final night. This is the second time tday I have written a Blog. The first one I wrote was while I was listening to the Flames/Canucks game. Those dasterdly Canucks sabotaged my Blog and erased it....haha. Anyway the Flames lost in shootout so wasn't too great a start to the day. We left Koh Yao Noi sadly yesterday as it was one of our favorite stops along the way. As I was packing my pack yesterday I noticed a very strange pungent odour. I had brought along an old pair of runners and had used them once while on KoLanta two weeks ago. I knew they didn't smell
too good but this was ridiculous. I removed them from the bottom of my pack and lo and behold inside one of them was a four inch DEAD Frog....oh my. I guess somewhere along the trip he had crawled in and couldn't escape. Needless to say the Frog and my runners were left at Koh Yao Noi.
We really enjoyed our time on this little island and especially the Thai people. One interesting fact: In Thailand you have the possibility of going into the armed forces as a young man. You literally pick a colored ball out of a Drum. If it is Red you don't have to go if it is Blue you go. Or if you pick a blue one but have lots of money.......you no go....hmmm?? Or if you are too short you no go and that was the case of our bartender.
With the help of a new found friend Ya who we had met at our little home on Koh Yao Noi we set off for Phuket. Ya had booked our Hotel in Phuket and also our flight for us to Bangkok (huge help) We arrived in Phuket and headed for our prebooked Hotel.
Islands
A less hazy day and the islands do not look so far away! Other than the first night this was the only other time that we had a prebooked room. Our hotel was right beside the beach so upon checking in we headed for the water. This beach reminded us of Cancun Mexico with the big waves and miles of pure white sand. We played in the rollers for about two hours or so and had sand driven into parts of our anatomy where there shouldn't be sand. We had a fabulous dinner on the beach and then off to bed.
We awoke to our last full day in Thailand. There is a Tshirt over here that says SameSame But Different and it is very appropriate as each day weather related is the same but different. After a Great breakfast it was on to the internet to listen to the Hockey Game back in Calgary and to work on the blog. As mentioned not a happy ending for us Flames fans but oh well we are still well in front of those darn Canucks.
We headed for the airport after lunch to catch our flight to Bangkok. After arriving in Bangkok we went to get a taxi. Inside the airport
Thai Hydro at work.
Bamboo ladder and all! we stopped at a Taxi stand and asked how much to our Hotel. They told us 600 bot and we new this was ridiculous as our hotel was supposed to be only 5 minutes from the airport and our first night we had taken a Taxi all the way to downtown Bangkok for 450 Bot. We proceeded outside to another Taxi stand ( the one we used our first night) and they said 150 Bot....that's more like it. So in to a Taxi we go. One problem after we get under way.......Driver not know where Hotel is....yahoo. Remind you of anywhere.......Vancouver maybe?? Finally after driving around for 15 minutes we tell him to go back to airport. He does and manages to get directions from his Taxi stand when we return to the airport. So off we go again and after about 15 minutes he pulls up to our Hotel.
We just finished touring an outdoor market as yours truly needs to buy some TShirts and can you believe it we are in the Tshirt capital of the world and I still haven't found the ones I want. Oh well will shop at the airport tomorrow morning and pay double
Goodview Restaurant..
choosing dinner from the tanks! the price.
Well I am going to sign off for the final time on our Travel blog. Thanks to all the people that have read our little blog and the Great comments that have been placed. We have truly enjoyed our Trek to Thailand. I must admit I was a little skeptical about going originally but boy am I glad we did and also so glad we traveled to all the small communities versus going just to the Resort/Tourist areas. The Thai country and the people are both very beautifull and for all those travelers and wanabe travelers I would higly recommend coming here.
all the best to everyone

see you back in Canada
