Hello world! We are IN BEIJING!!!! :O
but first let us update you on what we got up to in the days before we left.
I do believe that Alice left you after the beach BBQ that took place last thursday night. Friday we went to an island off Hong Kong called Lantau - it's where the airport is and is also famous for having the world's biggest buddha or the buddha with the world's biggest head made of one piece of bronze or the world's biggest something anyway we can't quite remember. It's very big. we went to Tung Chung which is as far as you can drive on Lantau without having a special driver's license because the entire island is a conservation area, then we got a very long cable car all the way over the island to the other side where the buddha is. The cable car was AWESOME. very high and over the sea and spectacular views which we couldn't quite see as it was smoggy unfortunately but even so. also unfortunately the cameras we brought had no battery, and the disposable camera we bought we managed to lose soon afterwards so we have no pictures

In the Boozer the night before we left from this auspicious day. arriving very hungry we went straight to lunch in a vegetarian restaurant at the monastery which owns the big buddha. lunch was interesting - humungously bland plates of tofu with "insert other bland vegetable here" but we ate it up like good children and later on found a "seasongings corner" where they kept all the flavour haha. After lunch we climbed the 670-something steps up to the buddha which was more tiring than it should have been, and admired the view from the top as well as viewing the sacred "relic" which was a minute speck of white something in a huge cabinet with lots of glass and flowers and stuff.
After the buddha we still had a little while left so we decided to visit Tai O, a fishing village built on stilts out into the water which was about 10mins away by taxi. It was a lovely quiet little village which smelt very strongly of drying fish but the houses were really cool built out of old boats and right up on stilts out over the water. we took fantastic pictures but they didnt make it sorry haha.
Saturday I covered my
sister's work in the morning as she had to revise for her IB mocks, and then James, Sam the sailor and I went to a boy called John's 3rd birthday party. John is the boy with Spina Bifida that James looked after as his job these past few months and Sam has just taken over from him. It was really quite fun with yummo food and lots of kiddies. Meanwhile, Alice and Mim had begun the baking frenzy that was our 18th birthday present to Hannah, who's birthday is in fact tomorrow on valentines day HAPPY BDAY SEESTAIR!!! in case you're reading. they baked saturday afternoon, and we continued to bake all of sunday morning during and after church to make the party tea of a lifetime for sunday arvo. twas amazing and filling and yum and the pictures are at my house except for one which i will put up here.
Saturday night, in between the baking, we went to Tai Po to meet up with some friends of Alice's from Southwater called Christine and Richard Hood, and their daughters Grace and Jessie. It was an awesome evening of yum food and much splashing around in their new
mahusive jacuzzi and everyone involved had a fantastic time. oh sam came too 😊 if you guys are checking this then HI!
Nothing else happened on Sunday after Hannah's tea that we can remember.
Monday and Tuesday were packing days where we frantically ran around trying to remember all those vital things we'd forgotten, and I had my hair cut again. We also had to cut down the amount we'd packed as when we weighed the bags they were really quite over the limit.
Tuesday night was our farewell do back at the good old Boozer in Sai Kung. There was a really very impressive turnout and loads of people came to see us off, and unfortunately also to buy us all drinks. We had too much, nuff said :P although i must add that Alice and James were far better off than Mim and I which is unusual! haha. twas a fun evening though 😊
Wednesday morning, however, was less fun as we were ever so slightly...delicate...shall i say. Again, Alice and James were annoyingly fine and I won't tell nasty stories bout anyone but myself so let it be known that i threw up

1 whisky, 2 whisky, 3 whisky, 4, 5 whisky, 6 whisky, 7 whisky...more? 3 times and was feeling awful and silly and embarrassed and unable to eat for the entire first 24 hours of our gap year expedition. ok you can all say it... SILLY LILLY.
We'll leave things at that just for now as we're in the 'business centre' (read dingy back room smelling of wee) of our hotel in Beijing and the computers are crap - we managed to crash it many times attempting to upload the pictures. when we get to a better computer we will put up all the pictures and tell you about beijing in more detail. we're going out for mims birthday meal today for it is in fact her 19th birthday woo mim! so we will have more to tell you later.
much love and kisses and missingness to everyone,
Lilly xxxxxxxxxx
