One of the ships in Okahu bay taken using the mega zoom on my camera! I made it!
Finally after too many hours of flying I am finally here!
I made it through New Zealand customs easily and as I walked out of the door with my luggage, Annette was there to meet me. Annette is the lovely lady who will be looking after me during my time here and she took me to the hostel via a trip to an extinct volcano by the name of Mount Eden - this was a great little stop off and after a short delay on the way up by some cows in the road we made it to the top where there was the biggest crater I have ever seen and a fantastic view of the city. From the top she was able to point out various landmarks and it gave me a great overview of the city.
I arrived at the hostel where I met Amanda who had also just arrived after staying with some friends. Amanda is from Idaho USA and is over here teaching music in one of the secondary schools. After signing various contracts saying that i wouldn't party loudly etc i was shown to my room which i am sharing with another girl

Another of the ships in the bay out here on a teaching placement at the same school called Emily. Emily is great fun and we have similar sporting tastes and get on well so far 😊
Annette then took myself, Amanda, Ben (who had also arrived that morning), Emily and Matt (he arrived last week and just came to join us) out into Auckland for a mini tour and to arrange bus passes etc...
After a long wander around Auckland we arrived back at the hostel. Emily and i nipped out to the closest food shop (asian supermarket) and bought a few essential food items to keep us going until we could get to food town today. After dinner and a shower i unpacked and fell fast asleep!
The morning was an early one as today is a national holiday in Auckland to celebrate Waitangi day which is the anniversary of Bristish settlers signing a treaty with the Maori in 1840. Five of us set off at 8 o clock to Okahu bay to watch a reenactment ad have a general celebration really! (Photos to follow - i can't access them on the computer in this internet cafe for some reason?!)
After a
No Zoom
This is my actual view of the water without zoom! long walk home via the big supermarket (food town) Emily and i had a bit of relaxation time involving melon and yoghurt, good music and general chatting before setting off for this internet cafe i am in now just up the road...
This evening there is a big lantern festival this evening which most of us are going to and tomorrow I think i might do some sight seeing of Auckland in general or perhaps get the ferry over to one of the islands nearby.
I have bought a new Zealand mobile phone out here so email me if you would like the number for that or simply check facebook...
