Hong Kong - Part 3

Greetings from Hong Kong,

Well, I am still enjoying myself in Hong Kong, even though I work far to much - even on Saturday.
You wouldn't believe the money in this city. 9 out of 10 cars is luxury - mostly mercedes, BWMs, jags or porches. And you never see a car that's older than 2 or 3 years. Another car that's popular here is the mini - there's quite a few of them around.

Since my last update Ive had a few little trips.

Lantau Island - the largest island in the Hong Kong Archipelago. Here I visited the largest sitting Budda statue in the world. Its a massive structure on top of a hill. Hope to send photos soon. Its in the middle of nowhere, but the view from it is real cool.

Lamma Island - a small island off the coast of the main island. It has a small town on it that has no cars, and is a very relaxing atmosphere. Its a hippie community. I also had my first decent pizza here. This island has a lot of ex-patriots on it, and tons of cool little bars. On our visit it was a little smokey, as there was a forest fire roaring on one of the hills above the town. They were able to put it out later that evening.

Schenzen, China - just over the border from Hong Kong. This was my first visit into mainland China. Schenzen is a city that has sprung up only in the past 15 years, and now is home to around 2 million people. It has some of the highest skyscrapers in the world. I have been told that most of these skyscrapers are actually almost empty. Some of the buildings we went into looked awesome from the outside, but once we went in them they were badly deteriorating or still not completed. There's also several skeletons of buildings that have not been completed. Some have been standing for 10 years!
Schenzen is mainly a place to buy stuff at really cheap prices. Everyone form Hong Kong comes here to shop, and the locals know this. So you need to really watch yourself as muggings are very common. On the last trip, one of my fellow teachers had his cell phone taken and was maced in the face.
We went and had a Thai massage for 4 hours - it cost about $20.

I also went to Hong Kong's Oktoberfest - good fun.

Food - well I have tried Korean, Thai and Chinese food - Korean being the best so far. Most times I have no choice but to eat Chinese or Ill starve. Some of it is OK, but really I don't care for it. I just got back from Schenzen late last night and am craving real food - Im going to Mc Donalds after I send this email - haha. Well chicken feet are very common here - they love them. SInce they don't use knives and forks, they put the whole foot in there mouth and then suck on it, and spit out the bones on the table - not on a plate or in a bowl - just on the table. I refuse to try this.
