I ran across these pictures on my computer and just couldn't hold them back any longer. These were taken on a trip to North Carolina for the XL List East Coast Rally (May 2008). The rally is an informal affair. There are no rally fees, no registration, no t-shirts just show up if you want and ride. I have gone for the last 2 years and both years on Saturday the group heads to the Shatley Inn (www.shatleysprings.com) for lunch and then on the Striped Snake (www.shadyvalleycountrystore.com) for some fun riding.
Well the Shatley Inn is my favorite place to eat. When I get in the area I try to eat there. Its just a down home resturant in the middle of nowhere. I love to get their family style meal, its all the fried chicken, ham, biscuits, corn muffins, tea, deserts and 13 vegetables that you can eat. When a bowl goes empty, you just put it on the corner and they will bring you some more. The people are friendly and the food is good. The front porch has multiple rocking chairs to seat back and relax while the band, usually a christian band, plays for the crowd
that is waiting to eat or sitting to let it all digest. This resturant in the north west corner of NC has busses from Charlotte come just for the food. The day we were there was one of those days. Several busses along with many antique cars were in the parking lot as we arrived. Hungry we all pretty much headed right in, to get on the list for the meal. But as we came out there was more patience to look around and discover the goodies parked all around us. This blog is about a Riddley motorcycle called CZY4PNK.
It was pretty noticable in the parking lot. The bright pink it got my attention. Upon closer examination I noticed the Winne the Pooh characters on the tank and fenders. I was taxed between looking at the customization done to the bike and checking it out as this is the first Riddley I had ever seen in person. Looking around it wasn't hard to find the owner, she was looking at the antique cars. There was no question of whose bike it was when I spied the woman in pink leathers. The owner, Ronda Rhodes of Winnabow, NC and
I talked for awhile as I asked her about the Riddley and her experience with it. I found out she had 2 one she left in FL at their other home. It had a theme, but I don't remember what it was, something Disney. I wish I had taken more pictures of some of the details she had done to it.
She was very helpful and I expressed an interest in gathering info for a magazine article. The mag I write for sometimes wants short filler stuff or in the winter is more open to stories like this, but in the last few months the opportunity to submitt it has not happened. So here they are enjoy the pics.
I finish a blog entry for the 08 East Coast Rally, it is here:
