After a flying visit of Santiago we jumped on a bus to Valparaiso, which is considered to be Chiles cultural capital!

What can I say?...I fell in love with it as soon as we arrived!! The busy towns main form of transport is the trolley bus which run all through the city on the overhead cables, a relic from days gone by along with the ancient acsensors (cable cars) that run up and down the steep hills joining parts of the town together.

We stayed in an area that has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, called Cerro Concepcion.....the quintest part of town, made up of small streets and alleyways with brightly coloured houses, art galleries, cafes and restaurants. not to mentiontonnes of street art!

As usual we took ourselves on a tour of the town to explore our surroundings, taking photos at every opportunity. On one occassion we were shouted at quite urgently, by a man who had been painting a nearby building. Of course we couldn´t understand a word and had to rely on sign language. It took a while, but we eventually fathomed that he didn´t want us to walk any further up that road, else we´d be mugged and even shot - that bit was easy to understand. the universal sign language of a gun (or 2 fingers) pointing at the temple!

Dan - Don´t worry mum our guest house gave us a full brief of places to avoid so I suppose this will be how most places warn you!! we also think it was a blessing in disguise as since then we have been even more on guard!!! can´t wait to get to Salvador or Sao Paulo then!!!

So as you can see by the pictues this place was an excellent choice to visit and a good place to spend a few days. Oh if you like salty food, come here they love the stuff and as for the ´heart attack on a plate´ say no more.

Nic - ...At least their cultured enough here to offer the greasy ´national´dish with a bottle of wine! - not a combo you´d ordinarily put together!

Anyway, from here we´re whizzing back to Santiago for our early morning flight to Bolivia!

More from yet another country soon!

Butch & Sundance
Bolivia - Sounds tres romantique, don't you know! That's where Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid met their maker. So, don't go robbing any banks, them local yokels don't take too kindly to that sort of thing! Keep the pics coming people, lovely to see what mischief your getting up to. "A picture is a poem without words" That's Horace, just by the way! (He was a well known poet, quite some time ago, so I believe)! Much love from the Old Man of Offley.
