Christmas tree...what is Heidi doing exactly?

Christmas 2008

The worst thing about being abroad during the holidays is obvious - you miss your friends and family. And for you Canadians, yes, you even miss the snow. The best thing about being abroad during the holidays is...okay, there is no good thing about being away from everyone and everything you know during the holidays. I've spent a few Christmases away from home now and I have no say, that Christmas in Korea tops the list of "best holidays away from home". So here are some tips for you vagabonds who get lonely during the holidays.

1. Buy a Christmas tree or Menorah or whatever else you fancy.
2. Blast Christmas music while literally decking your halls in boughs of holly. Just go fucking nuts. There is no such thing as tacky when it comes to holidays in a foreign country.
3. Drink hot cocoa and enjoy the Christmas/insert any other holiday vomit that you've just displayed around your apartment.
4. Stockings make all the difference! Decorate your own stockings or dreidel, etc. (Hint: Glitter Glue)
5. Buy lots of pressies and put them under the Christmas tree.
6. Invite your closest friends, small cozy Christmas

The stockings
morning is the way to go.
7. Have a friend from home visit during the holidays!! (YAY Tali! Even though she is Jewish and tried to spin her stocking...poor little guy. Stockings are for stuffing, dreidels are for spinning.)
8. Wake everyone's ass up early and make an epic breakfast. Stuff your face with pancakes, french toast, hash browns, fruit, and soju soy nog.
9. Have someone from home send you over some real maple syrup. SLURP.
10. Watch movies and open presents! (watch something from everyone's list of holiday favourites, even if it is Kenny vs. Spenny)
11. Make up a new ridiculous tradition, like Christmas face masks!

New Year's Eve 2008

Let me sum this night up by listing a bunch of DOs and DON'Ts.

1. Do not try and do something fancy and expensive, a good old Irish pub will do. After about an hour (15 minutes if you're me), you won't know where you are anyway.
2. Do not mix cocktails, beer, cider, tequila, and champagne.
3. Do not use balloons to beat people in the face, including the server who is trying to clear your table.
4. Do not lose your earmuffs and then frantically accuse people of stealing them.
5. Do not lose your purse PANIC and then find out your great friend had it all along.
6. Do not cry over the earmuffs you lost.
7. Do not puke all over the cab and then run up to the apartment leaving your friend to be yelled at by the cab driver who then called the police and made your friend pay an extra 20,000 won.
8. Do not puke on yourself, hair or coat and then leave your puke coat on your friend's kitchen floor.

1. Do have a blast.
2. Do tie balloons to your wrist.
3. Do bring enough money to buy a round of shots for everyone.
4. EAT DINNER FIRST.
5. Do the search for the nearest fast food place prior to getting sloshed. Quizno's was only mediocre.
6. Do shake your bootay to "I LIKE BIG BUTTS".
7. Do scream the words to "WE WILL ROCK YOU".
8. Do make new friends.
9. Do learn what to say if a girl recognizes you from the subway as the "most beautiful Korean girl ever" and then is even more ecstatic

Christmas face masks
to find out you're actually Canadian.
10. Do make a grand entrance at 11:58pm.
