l-r Annie, Mim, Alice, Sam, Chris, Sahil, Tom And so after many a trial the two intrepid (!) explorers arrived in hongkers.
The first day (Monday) they arrived in the evening so we did not very much but the following afternoon after a lovely long jet-lagged lie-in we began chopping ingredients for that nights spring roll party. We are now definite experts at spring roll rolling 😊 lots of my sister's loud friends came and we chatted well into the evening aided and abetted by alcohol 😊
Wednesday was New Years and we were having a sort of multi-generational gathering at the club house near my place. along with my parents friends we managed to get hold of several of mine who had come back from uni and also Annie Wong, head of girls boarding at Caterham who was also back in HK from Nottingham. There was the usual rush trying to make our faces less painful to other people and also struggling to find some clothing for Alice and Mim that didnt involve thermal underwear or salopettes, and a large number of people were drafted to the effort including my sister and mother. The party ran until 10 with chatting and snooker and
scary guy and mim
the pervy aussie guy clearly freaking mim out a little... yummo buffet food including our beautiful spring rolls from the previous night before us yoof buggered off to more exciting places for the countdown etc. We next went to my old HK school friend's apartment where we ushered in the new year with a soaking spray of champagne and a rather pervy australian guy, needing to enrol James' services on Mim's bum guard duty. From there we moved to HK-side to a club called Red, which is on the roof terrace of HK's tallest building. The club cost $600 (42 pounds) with an open bar, but with our con-man techniques (i.e. saying we needed the toilet) we snuck in and managed to take advantage of the free flowing booze without any extra cost - the tourists bargain instinct kicking in already! The highlight of Red for me had to be the 3 foot tall ice channels from the top of which bar girls poured shots of vodka for you to catch in your mouth at the other end - beacoup de fun, even if not the most hygenic. luckily no one got syphillis or herpes as far as we know. The final stop for the evening was Wan Chai, where

new years day was a write off, watching james bond movies and playing epic games of go fish, slam, poker and rummy.
Over these few days I was feeling steadily more pathetic and sorry for myself with a cold, so Friday I took the day off while James Alice and Mim when sailing on an epic adventure around the Sai Kung coast to wave at me through my living room window. We could hear the sccreams and shouts even from this far away....here I hand over to Alice to relay the events of that day:
After having days of endless lie-ins it was with enormous effort that Mim and I got up at rediculous o'clock to go and meet James at Hebe to go sailing. Mim managed to get all the way to Hebe before realising that her wetsuit was inside out and the name on the front which she thought was the brand name actually read 'mens small'!

The view from the (dry) waterfall ledge on Cascade After this and many an embarassing photo taking by Helen (Lilly's mum) we left the comfort of the land and headed out onto the open sea. Sailing out there with very intermittant wind we made our way to Cascade (an island with a really tall waterfall that we visited last year when we went sailing) sharing embarassing moments in the name of group bonding... Once we arrived at Cascade we discovered that the waterfall was infact dry so Mim and James decided instead to climb it after eating the packed lunch which Mim had packed for us all. After an interesting afternoon, in which we argued about whether the only other person on the island was in fact a butch woman or a fat nine year old (later discovering the latter to be true), we left to sail around to Lilly's house (Lobster Bay) before heading back to Hebe. Mim and I managed to sail all the way back and realised that sailing is our calling in life! Mim spent most of the journey back being the figurehead of our boat...
And so I (Lilly) return. That evening, after I had finished work at 8pm, we met in a
bar called the Boozer in Sai Kung with my parents, sister, Alice and Mim, James, Alex and his parents, Tom and his brother Chris, Sam and several other hangers on for a humungous darts tournament, several heart-to-hearts and even some sexy dance moves when everybody else had left (we even managed to get Alice moving, though twas not overly long-lived). Felling ever-so-slightly inebriated, we wobbled to MacDonalds for a midnight (well, 3am) snack before cabbing it home to bed.
Yesterday (Saturday) we went with Tom for his last outing in HK before he flew to Australia to begin his 5 month travels in Australia and an undetermined 3rd world country. he had decided to hike to the most inaccessible beach in HK, and it took a taxi, car ride, bus, ferry and over an hours hike to arrive. once there, the gorgeous white sand and big surf made up for it, except that it was too cold for even Mim to swim in, although the "men" had to prove how hard as nails they were and so went body boarding for a while before coming to warm up at our fire. We built a huge bonfire, BBQed meat, corn

l-r James, Lilly, Mim, Alice, Sam and mim managed to massacre an aubergine which tasted foul, marshmallows and chocolate along with other stuff to eat pretty much constantly the entire time we were there. As the sun went down it started to get chilly so we built the fire up as much as we could, before getting up to start the long journey home, back the way we came. By the time we got back to my place, we were TOTALLY knackered, and just about managed a shower and some dinner before falling into blissful unconsciousness 😊
And so that brings me to today - we've done bugger all actually. just written on here and eaten mashed potato.
until next time!
