Lots has happened since arrival back in BA. Don’t know if we will ever be able to get back into my one challenge a day life when we return to Cool. And I am so far behind in letting you know about our life here. Maybe I will just continue this story after I return. But let me fast forward ahead to a timely subject and then I will return to the humdrum life we live here.

I don’t know where you were for Thanksgiving but we took advantage of an invitation to the American Club of Buenos Aries for a Thanksgiving luncheon. These clubs are usually inhabited by business types and they even lowered the dress code to let us poor students participate. So I washed my jeans and tee shirt for the affair and was all ready until K stepped on my brogans and wouldn’t let me outta the apartment until I put on something more appropriate. Fortunately I had brought a collared shirt and some slacks or we would be over on Corrientes trying on stuff.

We headed over to the landmark Colon theatre as the club is across the street. Noticed the city jail is next door as we walked in. I am fascinated by these connections. Anyway we show our tickets and are welcomed in. We have assigned seating in the view area overlooking the Colon and busy Nuevo de Julio Street. But we are early, just in time for the social hour before lunch. I try to pick out interesting people to introduce myself to and do not fail this time. This guy is over from Hawaii trying to sell some property here and is accompanied by his go to guy, Raul. I set out conversing with Raul who is good at getting things done in this country. From bureaucracy to translations he makes things happen. So I chat him up on the real estate market here in BA since I have a class project on the subject due next Friday. A primary source as they say in English 1C. This goes on for a few minutes until Raul motions to someone a few feet from me and tells me he is the American Ambassador. The plot thickens when he also reveals that his date and customer used to be the ambassador’s boss. “You should have him introduce you…” is all I needed to fall into step with Mr. Ex-Boss as he makes his way over to Mr. Ambassador. I stood there expectantly as introductions were made and jumped right in when this guy who obviously forgot my name looks at me like what are you doing here. Turns out the ambassador is from Concord CA and is not acquainted with the California Junior College Study Abroad Program. He is now. I emphasized the Foreign Service ramifications, yada, yada, yada. You never know…this guy may grow up to be a politician or something. Even Professora Julie got some face time. When Tony and wife made the obligatory stop by our table after dinner was served, it was like ol home week for us Californians. Just trying to survive another hot day in BA…

Seriously though I have so much to be especially thankful for this year. All of you have been such a support that K and I made it a point to privately toast all of you at this lunch. Hopefully we will be able to give each of you a kiss on the cheek the way the Argentines do in the coming year if not during the holiday season. Muchisimas Gracias

Happy Holidays
Danny and K, sounds like you are having a great time. I hope the ambassador was duly impressed with Cool. Can't think of a better couple of ambassadors from Cool to make a good impression.

amazing
You two are amazing. Danny, whenever I laugh out loud while reading means the writer is incredibly good. That is you my friend. I so enjoy the gab. Photos are neat. Not much would take us on such a trip though. So traveling vicariously is slick. Take care and enjoy. Sue Butler
