Apparently they are very rare to see. Still haven't even seen a Kangaroo! Was taken at Bells Beach which is also where the film 'Point Break' was filmed! Have been having a great week in Frankston with Dave and his family who are very very nice, would like to thank Sue, John Pete, Ellenor (cheers for the Milo) for making me feel so welcome and Dave, Stacey and Paul for taking me out everywhere sightseeing and getting fairly drunk on a few occasions!!! Kim is in Tasmania and im meeting her in Sydney tomorrow so ill makesure she writes about what shes has been doing aswell as putting some pictures up.
The flight into Melbourne was fairly easy taking around 7 hours, we didnt get any sleep but watched a few films onboard. When arriving in Melbourne we were suprised how strict the security is there now, took a while to get through customs. Dave and Paul picked us us from the airport and we went to Frankston which is a town about an hour out from Melbourne itself.
On the 4th we all went on a trip along the 'Great Ocean Road' which takes you south west down past Melbourne along the coast. The route if famous for its spectacular views and it didnt dissapoint (check the pictures out). We arrived at a place called Apollo
Great Ocean Road
Kim and I on the great Ocean road. Bay which is a popular area for tourists to stay and has some great beaches, pubs nearbye. The motel we stayed at was far nicer than what Kim and I had come accustomed to during our stay in Thailand! However we actually drove to the wrong motel at first and Dave managed to get his car stuck on a hill while trying to reverse the car round a corner (check out the funny picture). We managed to move it while almost setting fire to the grass!
During the day we visited the 'Otway Fly Tree Top Walk' which was fairly interesting when walking 30m up between the trees. However the tour on the ground was rather funny due to the obvious lack of things to see, the tour leaflet mentioning tree stumps on its guide, not exactly exciting! Also there was awful lot of flies everywhere!
Once we drove back to the motel we all started drinking and the guys turned on the cricket, very Australian! In Australia they have drive through off licences where they actually pass the beer into the car, which is pretty amazing, england needs some! Also over here you can actually buy cans
Coast along Great Ocean Road
Picture taken of part of the coast along the Great Ocean Road of JD & coke and other mixers!
That night we all went and had a meal at the Apollo Bay Hotel, went across to the local fair and went on the dodgems then had a few to many drinks at the bar. Paul got chatted up by a man, then ran around the local fair naked at the end of the night, pretty drunk! Kim managed to drink all of the guys under the table however we all know she drank less than us! None of us can really remember getting back to the motel, I think we got a taxi??.... The next morning we all felt pretty ill apart from Kim and went to into Apollo down the beach, which was good cure for a hangover.
Kim went to stay in Melbourne on friday as she had to catch a plane to Tasmania and had a good look around the city. Everyone else went to Portsea located south of Melbourne which has some great beaches with huge waves which managed to bash me round a fair bit. There was a great pub along the beach which we all had a few drinks in and just chilled out.
Dave's Parking
How not to reverse around a corner..... On saturday Dave and Paul took me into Melbourne and we visited the botanical Gardens which looked pretty amazing and we managed to meet up with Gemma and Carolyn (girls we met in Thailand from Manchester) and Dave got stung by a bee, hilarious! After that we visited the Rialto tower and went up to the observation deck which gives a great view of the city from 253m up! Finaly we walked along Southbank by river and I was showed round the Casino there where we had a few drinks and both Dave and Paul didnt win anything... I drove Pauls car back from Melbroune stopping at a bottleshop so Dave and Paul could start drinking. That evening Dave went to a bucs party and Paul and some other mates of his went out to some bars in Frankston then to a club called 21st Century. Can't really remember much of the night apart from getting pushed home in a supermarket trolley at about 5am by Dave who was streaking at the time!
Since then I havent been quite as busy due to a rather heavy hangover which lasted a good two days, and Daves back has been
A tree stump...
Marvel at the very interesting tree stump....not. Apparently there is a killer snail that hunts here.....yawn pretty bad though he cant remember how he hurt it. So pretty much been chilling out. However I did go to the Cinema to watch King Kong last night.
So far in Australia ive noticed that alot of things are pretty similar to home, there are some differences ive noticed so far.
*The girls here are better looking
*People dont drink from pints glasses they drink beer in half pints which they call pots,
*Burger King is called Hungry Jacks.
*People who work in shops are more friendly.
If Kim is reading this hope your having a great time in Tasmania, see you on wednesday!
