OK I deleted the previous entry and added this one. Just a continuation and with picture.
Robe to Peterborough
Certainly lovely country side. Rolling hills. Lush green. And a lot of planted trees. They sure grow fast here. Not like The Pass or Grande Cache.
Lots of sheep and cattle. Lots of grain and other crops we couldn’t identify.
Into the state of Victoria. Speed limit 100kph.
Starting our Great Ocean Road adventure. Our first adventure was spotting an echidna by the roadside. Got some great photos of it. Our first stop was at Boat Bay in the Bay of islands. The signage indicates a boat launch, but there is a path out to the point where you can get a great first view of the Great Ocean Road.
However, about 150m down the road is the viewpoint for the Bay of Islands. SPECTACULAR. And to think that this is just the start.
Guess we may have to take another day to see some more of the sights.

Peterborough to Apollo Bay
The Great Ocean Road. So yesterday was spectacular, today was twice as much. Starting with The Grotto, London Bridge, Lock Ard Gorge
and the 12 Apostles. Absolutely fantastic.
If you are planning a visit to Australia, The Great Ocean Road is a MUST.
We missed 2 mile Bay, but did see Port Campbell Bay.
Dipped our toes into the Southern Ocean. Cold!! Port Campbell had a market. It was a ‘happening’ place. Bought some wine from Stonefield Estate. Good Chardonnay for $5.00 a bottle. Good stuff.
I had read that the GOR was a hilly, windy road. Nah!! Or so I thought. At least up to Princeton. THEN it got really interesting, up hill, down hill, around corners, S turns, hairpins. Very interesting indeed. So if you are doing GOR East to West you get the fun stuff first!!!

Apollo Bay to Melbourne
More windy roads, not so hilly but lots of curves, switchbacks, etc
Little did we know that the Melbourne cup and associated horse racing was such a big deal. $48.00 for our caravan spot in Apollo Bay. $41.50 for our spot in Melbourne.
Rained overnight, still drizzling as we head out. Marengo Bay Caravan Park shouldn’t be a 4 star rating. Really small amenities and no way to wash off the beach sand, except in the
showers. Place was also packed for the long weekend. Not an issue though
Sheoak Falls we saw our first live, wild Koala. Two of them up a tree, one sleeping the other eating.
Stopped at the famous surfing beach of Bells Beach. Too cold, I guess because there were no surfers.
We are at a 5 star Big4 Caravan park in Coburg (Melbourne). I would have deducted a half star just because of their lack of internet. One little kiosk is all they have. No wireless!!!

Melbourne
And no open Queen Victoria Market, after we had been assured it was open.
We took the tram into the CBD and went to the market. Since it wasn’t open, we just wandered around, took a couple of trams. Then we had dim sum lunch at the Shark Fin House. Pretty good, since we had no real idea what we were into!! It was kind of fun watching all the people on the trams and throughout the CBD all the men decked out in suits and women in their fancy dresses and hats or frilly frills in their hair and all just for this special day.
Then we took a
tram to St. Kilda. Walked along the beach a bit. Went out onto the Jetty. Brought back memories of 12 years ago.
Cool day and a bit windy, but not a cloud in the sky. Must have been done just for race day.

great blog
Blimey Gary, look like you're having a bonza trip. I just read all you postings and can't help feel jealous. You and Linda have been places I always figured were just impossible to get to. I'm guessing you've already developed a good "strine" accent too. /paul
