Day One

On Sunday morning, we woke up early and got ready for a two day trip. Sandra’s Uncle had invited us to Rust for two days where there is an entertainment park. It was very similar to Disneyworld, except a little smaller and different, of course. It was about a two-hour drive from Sandra’s house to Rust, so a bit better than the three-day journey to Florida from Maine that I remember doing as a kid. No pit-stops, hotels, or screaming kids in the back of the van made the journey very relaxing. When we arrived, we could see a few of the rollercoaster’s in the distance. Sandra’s two cousins (Patrick and Michelle) were excited. They're a bit younger than Sandra and I so the trip was especially fun for them.

The Hotel we were staying at (Hotel Colosseo) was right outside of the entrance to the park. So, it made getting to and from places very easy. In fact, once we parked the van, we didn't have to see it again until we left on Monday night.

The Colosseo was one of the nicest hotels I have ever stayed at. It had a unique, Italian style

to it that is almost impossible to detail. However, some of the pictures that I have posted explain it better. After checking into the hotel, we didn't stick around very long because everyone was very anxious to get to the park and start the entertainment. So, most of my appreciation for the hotels significance came later that night when I had a chance to walk around and look at everything specifically.

The Park

I instantly got the feeling of Disney World when entering the park. It had that kind of style you don’t get at carnivals and fairs, but only at well maintained, fancy, theme parks; with characters on stilts parading around the park, and characters dressed as pirates walking around to scare the kids. The park was created in a very specific way. In fact, I kept thinking to myself, "what a good idea this is for a park". There were 12 different sections of the park, each represented by a different country, and each containing its own unique shops, restaurants, and rides. Basically, they made it a point to make you feel like you were in the country represented by the area of the park you were in. France had a French theme; Spain had a Spanish theme, and so on.

Sandra’s cousin Patrick is 11, so going directly on rides is what we did when we first entered the park. I remember being his age and going to Disney World. I acted the same way. My parents must have been really easy going, because they had 4 kids, not 2. That first day, the rides we went on were quite standard. The first thing we did was, we got on a train that brought us around to all of the different countries (areas of the park) so we could see the whole park really quick. This was followed by Water Rides, Mini-Rollercoaster’s (and one big one), also a lot of very chill rides that we just randomly got on that aren't adrenaline pumping rides, but slow, relaxing rides. Also, we went to a horse show. The riders did random tricks, and battled each other for victory. They did that thing you see on TV where they ride at each other and they have the poles and shields....I forget the name of it.

The rides were fun, but I found it most fun when

we were just walking around the park, looking at the uniqueness of the buildings, and how nice everything was.

Hotel Colosseo

Sandra’s uncle had arranged a dinner buffet for when we got back to the hotel. So, while we were walking back I knew that I had that to look forward to. I was very hungry because I didn't eat that much at the park. Some small things here and there, but not a meal. So, when we got back to the room, we changed, and then went downstairs for the buffet. Firstly, that was the best meal I have ever had in a foreign country. It was amazing. They had baskets of German breads, Chicken stuffed with spinach with a delicious cream sauce, pastas, they even had deer meat. But, on top of the food being good, the atmosphere was also very nice. They even had 2 guitarists playing Italian music while you walked to and from the buffet. It was an amazing feast.

After dinner, everyone was excited to go swimming. Even though I was really tired, I didn't want to put a damper on the mood, so we grabbed our bathing suits and headed for the pool area, which was also very nice by the way. When we entered, I saw that they had a fountain type thing with steps going around it, which created the entrance into the water. Once you were in, it was only about 15 feet wide, but you could keep swimming, and swim right through where the wall was, to the other side (outside) where the pool continued, and got much bigger. It was cold out, so there was steam coming off of the pool. Also, it was night, so the pool lights made the whole thing very nice. I only swam for a few minutes, and then we laid down inside while everyone else finished. Sandra and her cousins went upstairs to the sauna for a few minutes while I rested.

Day Two

The next morning, we woke up around 8-ish, and gathered downstairs for yet another buffet, a breakfast buffet. Germans eat very weird breakfast, so I was worried at first that they wouldn't have much to my liking, but they did. They had scrambled eggs, bread, sausage, bacon, potatoes, etc. It was good. Not quite as good as the Dinner Buffet, but good.

After breakfast, we made our way back to the park. It was a very similar day as the first day, with only slight differences, one being that we went on the biggest rollercoaster, The Silver Star, which is said to be the fastest and highest rollercoaster in Europe. It is 73 meters high, and has a high speed of 130 km/hr. It was some good wholesome, quality, family entertainment (Richard Saying).

Also, we went to a show called Halloween On Ice which I really enjoyed. I had never seen figure skating up close before. It's crazy how cool skating is. One guy even did a back flip.

Among other things, we also went to a Laser Show, and a 3D Show, where you put on these glasses, and watch this movie that's all in 3D. It was a cat, who is walking around a haunted house, and you watch it through the eyes of the cat. Sandra didn't like it very much, she was scared, but I thought it was crazy.

At the end of the second day, we left the park and drove back to Hessen, not before stopping for a nice Dinner near the park. It was a tiring trip, but was well worth it, and it was nice to spend some time with Sandra’s family and get to know them a little bit. I just hope they enjoyed my company as much as I enjoyed there’s....
