"I'm Bored" Says Tom,
"Me To, Lets do something" Said Stuart
"Wanna go to Sun City" An excited Geoff pipes up
"Sure, When?" from both Stuart & Tom
"Now"

So within 2 hours we left Camp and were on our way

This conversation took place at 10.30am on Tuesday after breakfast and a heavy night before as alot of the group had gone home on the Monday.

So by 1.30pm the three of us were on our way on a 7 hour road trip to Sun city in Tom's Defender Land Rover. The journey took us through the Drankensberg Mountains and then onto the N4 toll roads through Pretoria and then 2 hours onto the Sun City area. We arrived after a ipod singing alcopop laughing drive at about 8.30pm to the Sundown Lodge about 10km outside the main gates to Sun City. The cost of the Chalet that slept 4 was 360 rand (£12 between 3) per night. This was instead on the 3000 rand (£200) per night in the cheapest hotel in Sun City, or the Palace Hotel at 9000 rand (£600) per night living in luxury. We planned to stay at Sun City for 1 day 2 nights

After a couple of drinks it was time to sleep and a early start for the next day. By 9am we were on our way to Sun City to enjoy the sun etc. After a couple of failed attemps to find the Valley of the Waves we made it to the Observatory Bar and pool were at 11.30am the 3 of us were sipping Long Island Iced Teas with a view to die for.

Next stop was the water slides in the valley of the waves. In the middle was a water slide that dropped about 17 metres straight down that you actally leave the slide until you reach the bottom and end up scimming across the water until you stop. Next were to water slids that you float down on large rubber rings, one was really fast that on a couple of occasions I even manged to falls out of the ring and had to scamble to get back in. The other slide on the ring was in the dark and you had no idea where you were until you fall out of the slide into the pool. On the other side of the large slide was another two slide that you go down without a ring. So as you can imagine all three of us were up and down these slides for a good hour or so until to call for another Long Island Iced Tea came calling.

During our time using the Observatory Bar we all befriended the three helpful ladies working in the bar. Nancy, Agnes and Helen. We even tok a couple of picture of us all behind the bar and printed them all a copy.

The admission fee to Sun City is 150 rand per person (£10) this includes entrance to Valley of the Waves, Free lunch of either a Hamburger or Chicken burger and chips, Free soft drink or lager, free Ice cream, half price Jet ski and admission to a show in the Sun City hotel. So its was our mission to use all these offers as possible.

Lunch was Peri Peri Chicken burger and Chips and as I refused the guys the chance to drink soft drinks it was lager all round. The tempreture today was in the high 30, so after drink it was time for another Long Island Iced Tea from our favourite bartenders. The Valley of the Waves closes at 6pm to after our quick goodbyes to all the friendly people we had met we made our way back to the chalet to change to go out for a meal and then to the casino. We got back to Sun City at around 8pm and went for a meal in the Fishmonger Restaurant were all three of us enjoyed a slap up meal. Myself going for Prawn Spring Rolls for starter and The Treasure Chest for main course, this include Dover Sole, Squid and Queen Prawns. Stuart went for the Calamari to start and the Kingklip for main course. Tom had Queen Prawns to start and Salmon Sushi that was made in front of us. The food here was amazing and the three of us went to the casino feeling very full.

So by 9pm the boys hit the casino in the Sun City Hotel. The smoking casino was named Harlequinnes after a couple more Long Island Iced Teas it was time to hit the Roulette tables. After a about 2 hours and down 800 rand it was time to throw in thre towel. The atmostphere in the Casino was amazing and there was even the classic Longue room singer. We finally left to go back to the chalet at about 1am, as this was meant to be our last day as leaving in the morining. Tom & Stuart then made the desision to stay another day. So once we arrived back at the chalet it was time to have a quick drink (Ok more than one) and sleep as we wanted to get back to the Valley of the Waves early the next day.

The 2nd day was very much the same to start with as the day before as we went swimming, drinking and enjoying what Sun City had to offer. We also went Jet Sking in the afternoon and then a quick change at the chalet as we had book tickets to see a show in the Sun City hotel called " Let there be Rock"

Before the show we went for a fantastic meal in an italian Restaurant were myself and Tom had the biggest Lamb Shank in the world and Stuart went for the more traditional Pasta.

We arrived at the theatre and we were sat on the 5th or 6th row, but there were not many people attending this performance. The show was about a group of teenagers that found a old warehouse to band practice, the owner asked them to sing first before he would let then practice there. He then told them that there singing was not music. The next hour and half became a muscial journey from the 50's to the 90's with the whole cast of singers and dancers performing hits from Elvis, Beatles, Tina Turner, Michael Jackson, Rolling Stones right up to Robbie Williams. To say that this show was amazing would be an understatement. We enjoyed it that much that we all made the plan to stay another day just to see the show. What made it even more fun was that the guy singing in the Casino the night before was also in the playing the keyboard in the show and even had a couple of solo singing parts were he sany Billy Joels "The Piano Man" which to the 3 of us was even better then Billy's. During the show we were clapping, singing and even did the "Time Warp" from the "Rocky Horrow Show" and at the end all three of us were standing on the chairs dancing along too. Once the show had finished we were outside the hotel and the Casino Singer whose name was Farnie came up to us and said how nice it was that the three of us were Singing and Dancing along as we stood out from the rest of what he called a " Boring group".

We then went back into the Casino and had a great night chatting about the show, Farnie was singing as we were standing at the bar with a Long island iced tea when all of a sudden the microphone was in my face and the next thing i know i was singing "Sweet Caroline" to the whole of the casino. Farnie, Tom & Stuart were now in fits of laughter, but i did'nt care because for one night only i was a casino lounge room singer. Then its was Stuarts then Toms turn. When Farnie was on a break he came over to us and we chatted to about 1.30am and got Farnie alittle bit tipsy. We made our goodbyes and promise to see him again in the show the next day.

Way, Way out of our budget
arose to find the Sun City had become Cloud City but we still managed to make our way to the pools and slides but when your used to 37 degrees and today it was only 26 it became a bit cold to we left to change alittle earlier than the days before and return all dressed up for our last night.

Tonight was to be a meal in the Steak Restuarant. So the 3 of us all went for the 1/2kg steak and to toast a great trip a bottle of Champagne. So after our steaks which were perfect and 2 bottle of Chanmpagne in 45 minutes we had to dash to the theatre our last performance. This time we were sitting in the front row and had an even more enjoyable evening as this time our new friend was now gonna sing the "Piano Man' just for us.

We had a couple of drinks with Farnie in the Casino and left about 11.00pm as we had made the plan to go back to camp in the morning. We exchanged Facebook and emails etc and was back in our room chatting about the great road trip to Sun City.

The Journey home was a quiet affair and we arrived back in camp about 7pm on the Saturday. That night the three of us seplt on the lookout tower listening to tom's ipod of the "Sun City" tunes tom had but together. All of a sudden "The Piano Man' came on so Tom texted Farnie to say that we were listening to it on the ipod but he sung at far better, within a couple of minutes Farnie was on the phone singing to us on handfree in the middle of the bush. He then promise to email us some of his tracks he had.

I now have on my ipod an amazing selection of tunes both in English and in Africarnes which i am still listening to.

So that was our Roads trip when 2 guys and a Gay went to Sun City. A real shite few days in South Africa
