First evening at NH
The first evening with lots of internationals. Orientation
So the first impressions are made and I got to know some people. We've been partying a lot already and been around a bit. But first things first. When we came here it was rainy and grey as I said but today the weather is great. The sun is shining and its 10°C outside and I fear it wont get much warmer but still warm enough to go cycling around for we got ourselves bikes as fast as we could and everything is much easier now.
So what have we been doing the whole time? Well one of the first things were to meet some people who also arrived early and had nothing much to do. Thomas and me went to Joe. Also a physics student but from Austria. He was posting about free beer and I just couldn't miss that now, could I? So we went there and met our first people. And all the internationals had kind of the same problem. The swedes on their corridors haven't arrived yet. So we spend our first evening German speaking.
We have been cycling around the Lake Nydalasjön. They got swimming saunas on the lake for
Campus rally
Here we have our lunch break after the campus rally and before we got on the buses. rent and all around the lake there are places for BBQ and fire but I will come to that later.
On Wednesday the Orientation course started and we got to know some more people. We had introductions of the people from the International Office and some fun lecture about the Swedish behaviour and their oddities. We went out that same night. We have been around at the student bars on Campus. At first they wouldn't let us in because there was some party the business students arranged for their new students but some people got us in and it was a fun evening.
Next day brought us more informations of some and of less importance. The funniest thing was the Soumi who sung to us in his native language about the university and other things that have songs. Like every person got one. The guy really had much fun up on stage.
On friday we had a city/campus rally and a bus trip around town. It lasted the whole day and it was a bit tiring but we had a party in the end with some food in a awful place called extreme, or rather Schlager Klubben.
buddy group 13
There are some guys and gals from my buddy group. Not the place I like to be in but they had Karaoke and that was definitely fun.
The next day we had a little party at one of the party rooms planned. Well not planned carefully because someone else was faster and didn't want to have international students in there and so we ended up in a corridor of some people close by. In the end more and more people started to show up and there have been like 60 people at that place at a time. Many people where changing between outside where it was cold and inside where it was not at all.
In the end we asked around if someone wanted to come to sauna with us and we have been 4 people who went to sauna at 2 in the morning. We got out of there at 5:30 and I just entered my room when the sun started shining over the buildings on the other side of the street. It was a wonderful feeling.
On the Sunday evening we had a BBQ right in front of the student housings here in Ålidhem. There are lots of possibilities here and we got some people from
Nydalasjön
the lake at evening here together.
On Monday our courses started and I got introduced to the Swedish way of studies. Here every week is different. Your schedule changes all the time and I got my first exams in about 3 weeks from now. Int he evening we were at another BBQ right next to the lake and I roasted a chickenbreast over the fire on a stick. That was fun 😉 Afterwards we went to sauna because it was quite cold (2 degrees Celsius) and when we where driving home around 12 we saw the milky may quite well.
On Thursday we had a party at a place called scharinska where is supposedly bands playing at times. It was fun but I was messed up and could not get out of bed the next morning.
Today we had a small team building day with our buddy groups. I am on group 13 and we people from several different countries. We had some small competitions today and we enjoyed it. We didn't win though. Soon I will go to the sauna again and then we are going to pre-party at the place of Swedish mentor for our group so lets see
swimming sauna
that is one of the swimming sauna huts on the lake how the Swedes live.
So take care I need to get my stuff ready.
