Denis´s last day Hola chicos!
Hope everyone is getting ready for the festive celebrations back home. Cant get my head round the fact that christmas is so soon. Anyway Happy christmas to you all. I´m hoping to spend my christmas deep in the amazon.
My time teaching is nearly coming to an end. I´ll be sad to leave the kids but hopefully they have had some fun in my lessons. One school are off to sing some songs in a nearby town and hopefully they will do a rendition of we wish you a merry christmas.
A lot has happened since i last updated the site. December is party month in baños and the whole place is pretty crazy with loads of people and live music etc. In baños the parties started with a big parade of the candidates for queen of the fiesta. Everything and everyone in baños stopped and went to watch the parade. I spent the day drinking with friends in the streets and trying to getal the free stuff that people were throwing from the floats.
After the parade a week later was the soap box derby or coches. It was crazy with people in the

The teacher setting a good example? street and would only get out of the way of the karts until the last moment. No crashes this year so it was a bad year for the races. The karts are a hybrid of a bobsleigh and a go kart with two people riding in the kart. Next year i want to come back and race with another guy volunteering. Baños be ready for the gringo machine!
All the classes are still going really well. The kids are loads of fun to teach and still playing football with the neuvo mundo kids. They had a football game between two of my schools, the result was nuevo mudo 7 san pedro 2. As you can tell from the score the defence still need a lot more work. I´ve also been playing football myself with the doc whos another volunteer. We play at the town further down the road from hola vida. I play with the guys who work for the doc building a luxury resort in the jungle and some villagers. Its a mad game, playing on a concrete pitch with a small hard ball.
Last week we all helped out the doc with the medical work. He
did a consultation for the whole community. It was pretty good but they didnt trust me with helkping any of the people so i was left to do the work on the computer.
After school i usually do a bit more work and the last couple of weeks we have built a new bbq at the centre. So i spent the last couple of days carrying massive rocks from the river. When finished had a beer with the guys, Patricio and Segunda and after went fishing with Patricio in the night. We used a net which is just thrown over the rocks to catch small fish. We got quite alot and ate pretty well that night.
I´ve been to a few parties in the jungle. Its the best way for the teacher to meet the communities. To get to the party i had to cross a river withoput a bridge so was a bit worried about returning drunk and possibly getting washed away. When you go to the parties you have to drink the local brew- chicha made form yuca. The women prepare the drink by chewing the yuca and spitting a small amount into the drink. Its
Nuevo Mundo v San Pedro
The pitch was in perfect condition? not very strong but they have loads of it.
At the centre the guys bake bread for all the kids at the school. Last week we all helped out with making the bread. Its baked in a massive oven. When we bake the bread, marcello usually made the biggest pizza in the world. Who would have thought that theres a pizza hut in the jungle!
Its been sad finishing at the school but i have enjoyed the last few days. The kids are just starting to get to grips with some basic english, so hopefully in the new year they can impress the new teachers. As most of you that are reading this are english i better tell you about the weather. We´ve hit rainy season and some massive down pours. After one storm a corale (snake) got washed down from the jungle. If you get bitten by the snake it takes 30 minutes for the poison to kill you. Take that steve irwin!
As ever i have returned to baños to make the update. This weekend we had some live music last night. Today was the bull fights. I think the bulls won today. There was
a kid fighting and kept getting hit by the bull. Poor sod! They then had a load of clowns go in and do some bull fighting but they mainly just ran away fromk the bull. After the clowns anyone was allowed to jump in and have a go. I was tempted but decided to sit a the side and have a beer instead.
I´ve rambled on for long enough. I´m hoping to be deep in the jungle for christmas. Its a place that can only be reached by canoe.
I wish everyone A MERRY CHRISTMAS where ever you are in the world, keep the comments coming.
See you soon
Dave
