Trips Around Southern Germany

Lake Constance Hike ViewLake Constance Hike ViewLake Constance Hike View

We went on a hike near Radolfzell and I saw this amazing view.
So I have been in Germany for about 3 weeks already and I wanted to share a few of my weekend adventures. Being in Germany has brought me very close to many different towns and each town has it very own festivals and I swear they have a new one every week.
The town of Konstanz is about a 30 minute train ride from Radolfzell so that was naturally our first weekend plan and it also just so happened that on the first Saturday it was also a festival called Seenachtsfest. I left early with a group to explore the town of Konstanz before the festival started later in the evening. The town is also right on Lake Constance like Radolfzell but it much bigger and is a shopping destination for the surrounding small towns. We spend the day looking at all its beautiful buildings and enjoying the amazing view from its main church. This town had some amazing architecture since it wasn’t bombed during World War II. Later in the evening a larger group of participants in my program showed up and we went to the festival. The festival was actually rather big and like many Germany festivals had lots

to do with beer. We spend the evening enjoying fireworks over the lake and an open air concert. It really is weird to hear a song in Germany and not be able to make out a single word and then the next song is “Umbrella” by Rihanna. It was a great Saturday to really get together with the other people in my program and have a great time.
The school that I am taking Germany classes at plans out different activities for us during the week and usually a larger activity on Saturday. I can already tell that my Germany is getting better since I no longer just have to smile and nod as my Host Frau (as I call her) when she talks to me. It is nice getting into a routine during the week with the language classes but it feels really weird having so much free time. I luckily get to spend that time sitting on the lake reading or eating and talking at a café with other people in my program.
The next Saturday the language school had planned at trip to Neuschwanstein. This is a world famous castle in Bavaria. This castle is

what Walt Disney used as inspiration for the Cinderella castle. I have always wanted to see this castle since I have read a few books about the king that built it. It really is an amazing site since it is nestled in the mountain side. We took a tour of the amazing castle and walked around the gardens and paths near the castle. The Sunday after I went to Neuschwanstein I went with a group to a Fort in the next small town over. The town is called Singen and it has an old ruin of a fort on top of a mountain. We took the train to the town and then hiked up to the fort. The hike ended up surprising all of us since it was about 40 minutes of constant walking on about a 45 degree slope but all the sweating was worth it once you got to the top and could see for miles. They turned the old fort into a park with picnic tables and grassy areas.
These last few weekends have been a ton of fun and I am excited to share more adventures on my blog. The program has also told me

more about my permanent placement after language school. I will be attending at University in Wuppertal called Bergische Universitat. I am also living with a host family in a town nearby the university called Remscheid. It is nice to finally find out the names of towns and schools and I am excited to actually get the name of my host so I can contact them. Well I hope everyone is doing great at home and thanks for all the emails.
