QUESTIONS FROM AUNTIE CINDY
Q: Are you the tallest person there?
A: Often, yes, I am. Although the younger crowd seems to be taller than their parents. At the restaurant last night I spied a Chinese teenage boy who had to be over 6 feet. Wow. My light skin and blond hair seem to be what’s attracting attention the most tho.

Q: Did you bring high-heeled shoes with you?
A: No, I just brought my comfortable pair of walking shoes. But I often wish I had heels to avoid the puddles in the street - you just don’t know what the liquid really is.

Q: Have you ridden in a rickshaw yet?
A: Yes, we rode in a rickshaw my first day.

Q:Can you rent a moped there? Will you put you and your baby’s life in peril if you do travel about on a moped?
A: I haven’t checked into it. To tell you the truth, while I am DYING to ride a moped, I don’t dare. The traffic is just too crazy. Moped drivers go on the street, weaving in between cars and buses. They travel down the lane just for them, weaving among the bicycles. And they go on the sidewalk. I have a hard enough time as a walker watching out for the mopeds. They don’t obey any traffic rules, and don’t stop for lights either. They’re crazy! I do think I’d die if I rode one. I asked the Ex-Pat wives here if they will get a moped. They’ve thought about it, but agree, they’d likely die.

Q: Does the sun look any different over there? Can you see it?
A: I’ve seen the sun only briefly, but it looks the same. Most days it is overcast, hidden from the earth by a cloud of smog.

Q: Is there a moon in the sky that you can see?
A: I saw a beautiful moon on the flight over; it was a full moon and it lightened up the entire sky around the plane. But since I’ve been here, no moon, again because of the smog. We did see stars one night in Shanghai, however, because it had just rained. They were beautiful.

Q:What does the wine taste like? Oh yeah, make Jesse taste the wine and report back to me!
A: *Sticking my tongue out at you!* The hardest for me was going to that Japanese restaurant and not getting the plum wine, one of my all time fav flavors. I settled for plum juice tho, and it was delicious, just sweet enough.

Q: Is there toilet paper there?
A: Some places. But it is much rougher than at home. Public bathrooms and many restaurants don’t have toilet paper, so I keep a few Kleenex in my purse. I hate dripping dry while squatted over those floor toilet things.

Q: Does the electricity stay on all throughout the day?
A: Yes, although many places never light up their chandeliers or street signs. They do seem to try to conserve a lot of electricity here.

Q: Do you see many young girls lip syncing to songs on street corners?
A: No, not a one! But they do have Karaoke bars.

Q: Do they ski there?
A: I’m not sure. Maybe out West where they have big mountains.

Q: How bout baseball, do they play it there?
A: Haven’t seen any ballfields. There are really few parks here. And I haven’t seen pool tables or foosball either. But they do typically have ping pong.

Q: How many pictures have you taken so far?
A: About 500. And about 50 short video clips. I am the picture queen.

China Climate
600 pictures?! wow. Unreal. I think you beat me :) The climate here is supposedly alot like the US - although the country is so very very big it varies alot. Where we are it's a bit hotter than the US, obviously, and more humid. But it gets cold in the winter and they have snow. Last year they had a 50-year snow storm; the skies dumped 5 feet and it about paralyzed the area. It was right over the Chinese new year in February, and folks who only got to go home once a year weren't able to. They were sleeping in train stations, stuck, with no heat. It sounds awful. And then they had an earthquake!
