A Great Opening Weekend!

Sleep Shmeep!

As the weekend draws to a close I can happily inform you that all is well and I'm having a great time. I'm meeting people all the time and haven't really stopped since I got here. As an added bonus, my digestive system is so far standing up to the task provided by the food and water!

The routine here is quite strange but really good. 'Daytime' goes from about 13:00 through to 06:00 the next day. My teaching hours are 2pm to 9pm so have no choice but to have a lie in everyday and be more or less nocturnal.

I have spent the weekend looking around Incheon which will be my home for the next year. People like to go out drinking and party big time here so I've had a double header on Friday and Saturday. Not normally my vibe but I've gone along with it and enjoyed myself. We'll have to wait and see whether I can keep the pace or have to return to my trusty old friend the fizzy pop.

As it turns out, arriving on Friday afternoon local time was the best move I could have made (not

that I had anything to do with it). I've had the weekend to settle in without having to work and ease my way into my new lifestyle. There's a good local community of fellow foreign teachers and everyone has been very kind and accommodating. A load of us even went to watch Incheon United FC at the impressive Munhak stadium on Saturday evening. A brilliant experience and one which I hope will be repeated fairly regularly while I'm here. My apartment is small and well-used but more than adequate. It has everything I need plus the internet and cable T.V. which allows me to be in touch with everyone at home and watch Premiership football. 😉

So tomorrow will be my first day in school. I gather that I will be spending most of my time observing colleagues and being introduced to the children who treat you like something of a celebrity. Not sure how comfortable I'll be with that but I'm looking forward to it. I will keep you informed with how it goes.....

The Munhak Stadium, Incheon
The local football team are distinctly average and play in the K-League. Their home matches are held at the Munhak stadium which was purpose built for the World Cup in 2002. It was about 5% full when we were there - one suspects that had it not been for the World Cup, Incheon would be playing in a park.

Clinton "i'm a cock" Morrison is wearing 9+1 for cov this season because he can't have 10 - sick! I told ivor your news and forwarded him you blog address.
