HI THERE, for those with no Italian language skills like me, allora means "and then", and it is used by everyone hundreds of times a day in their speech....so after Sicily and 7 weeks of cycling in high temps of 40 odd and continued sunshine I ferried accross to Sardinia to more of the same but also strong winds coming down from France called The Mistral....what with heat, sunshine wind and mountains, Sardinia proved a difficult destination on the bike and also the 2 million tourists from ITALY that visit every august, after 2 weeks it proved too much so after 450 klms and 5 punctures in one day....ALLORA I ferried across to Genova to visit Stefano who I started the trip with May 2007 in Thailand. Unfortunatly his Dad is very ill only stayed 2 nights and are off to Venice today by train then down Croatia coast to visit friends from Austria with a sailing boat and hoping to get a few days out on the water there. Back to Sardinia. It is a very beautiful island, smaller than Sicily but hilly and barren in places. The coast road on EAST was easier to ride and lovely beaches to camp on. I meet a few other travellers but most of the time was alone. Also ferried accross to small island of Madellena where the water is crystal clear and not so windy.S pent 3 nights there before coming over to Genova. The highlight was being there on August 15 a big religious festival in Europe, and in small towns accross Sardinia is celebrted with fireworks and concerts etc. I enjoyed being in a tiny coastal town to watch the happenings....Have caught up with the domestics here, ie laundry, bought a new tyre and tube and cleaned and oiled bike, seen some of the final days of oylimpics, forgot to mention the day after all the punctures, was cycling late in day over a long hilly stretch, stopped for a break in a bar to see the NZ girl in the shotput, she was leading so stayed for the finish and was very excited when she won gold. All the barman watched with me and shouted me a beer to celebrate...also saw the mens 100 or 200 metres when the jamacan broke the worldrecord....great race.....well must get ready for the train to Venice this afo....looking forward to wandering around there tonight.....so till later, all take care and catch u soon....Love Kay xxxx
