Left Darwin around 8.30 am, Marg made a comment saying that “Bailey, Chloe and herself don’t really like cities”. Darwin is nice but very restricting if traveling with dogs as we knew it would be, maybe we should have done more sight seeing but it was really hot for us. Up to approx 80 km’s away from Darwin along the main hwy there is old runways from WWII every couple of km’s
We had cross head wind all the way to Katherine some 290 km’s away, so we had to stop at Hayes creek for fuel, at every fuel stop Marg takes the dogs for a pee and at Hayes creek she noticed on a shelter a couple of old photos, one was of John Wayne and troop touring the soldiers and entertaining them when the American troops were in Australia

When we got o Katherine we decided not to stay at Riverview and try some where else as it was so/k the first time but boring the second time around. Called into Katherine again for fuel, a few supplies and lunch. We drove out to Manbulloo homestead about 9 km’s west on the Victory Hwy. Saw the lady running the homestead and cost us $22 which was quiet reasonable for a powered site.

We were informed by the owner that if we went through the back fence gate we could take he dogs down to Katherine River and that they could have a swim and to stay in the shallow part of the river which was more still water. So after setting up camp we got changed into our swimmers and headed off down to the river through the bush and keeping an eye out for snakes with the dogs.

The dogs were nearly doing back flips to be off their leads and running around. Found a nice sandy spot and the water was still and we went in up to our knees and having fun. After the heat of Darwin it was really nice to cool off. Warwick then mentioned croc’s could be around, so Marg was keeping an eye out for thing’s to be moving on the water. Half way across the river something caught Marg’s eye it seemed like a branch or stick caught out in the middle but not sure it sought of looked like a small croc but watching it for awhile it didn’t move as the dogs were running around, so we decided to go after that.

On our way back to the van an old bloke started to chat to us and her was from Husty on the south coast and we told him that we had a swim and he said not in the deep part of the river and we say no because of the croc’s so there we go, we have been swimming with the croc’s. He says that over the years there has been some croc’s found in the deep water there.

Sitting out under the stairs having prawn rolls and plum sauce chicken wings hard life but someone has to do it
