Venice was simply amazing, and also literally a maze. After getting repeatedly lost in the maze of twists and turns through streets winding along the canals, and battling through the thick crowds of tourists in summertime Europe, we relented and bought a map hoping that this would be our saving grace. The map proved to be no more than a waste of money, so we succumbed to the moment and began to lose ourselves and let the city embrace us.

We watched the Gondolas float lazily through the back canals, and the ferries whizz along the main waterways. We wandered through streets lined with shops selling glass fashioned into stunning artpieces, jewellery and souvenirs; and on to quiet secluded streets home to local Venetians. We marvelled at the stunning Mosaics that adorn the interior of the Basilica San Marco - they’re so detailed that they appear to be painted.

We headed out to the island of Murano which is famous for glass blowing, and watched a live demonstration and then tried to escape from the eager salesman who mistook us for rich tourists interested in his €700 plate. The island of Burano was the highlight of our trip though - with it’s beautiful coloured houses, chilled out locals and slow pace of life. It seemed a world away from the hectic streets of neighbouring Venice.

See you in Koh Kood
Hey Guys.. Seems you are taking a slow ride down here to Thailand, getting down here by the end of August looks pretty ambitious to us. We have both been here for a week now and settled in a bit, rented a house with communal pool, so me and Niamh are splashing around while Grainnes working hehe... Okey, let us know about your plans...
