Some photos of the view and whatnot from here in Copiapó...
also, today (being last sunday... sorry for the delay) Osvaldo gave me a historical tour of Copiapó.... which we're going to have to do again when I understand more spanish! I did actually manage to understand the majority though... anyway some of the pictures are from today.

there are very few trees and a lot of the buildings are low... so the sky always seems HUGE. sometimes it reminds me a little of the sky in New Mexico.

its really gorgeous when its nearing sunset because the mountains get all orangey or pinky purpleish and whatnot... this pic really doesnt do them justice!

Juan Godoy
The bronze statue is of Juan Godoy who was a poor woodcutter who accidently discovered a vein of silver in the mountains. A jeweler told him it was lead and paid him a small amount for each piece he brought it. Eventually people followed him and developed the mine. Not sure if he ever profitted from it.

well Osvaldo told me that he became very very rich... so im asuming he proffited from it.

Great to see some pictures of your whereabouts! Make sure you get up into those mountains sometime to look down on the town, they look awesome!
